  • Guide for indestructible mounting to a door
Hey everyone, since so many struggle with mounting these heavy mirrors, I thought I’d write a guide for mounting to a bathroom or bedroom door using French cleats. Even if you’re mounting to a wall, these instructions will also work well. It’s shameful how these vendors supply crappy plastic drywall anchors and/or crappier double-sided tape when they know full well that won’t hold. Doors these days are shockingly flimsy hollow-core doors (pic #1), so with the weight of this very nice mirror, I committed to using toggle bolts (pic #2). I also committed to using epoxy (i.e. industrial glue) on the mirror’s backside instead of whatever terrible foam tape probably came in the packaging. I don’t regret it because the result is rock solid. You can remove the mirror by simply lifting it and it doesn’t rattle on the door. But the whole thing took work. I bought these cleats, then sawed them in half to have mounts on both the mirror’s top and bottom: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VWAYZS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Using sand paper, I roughened the cleat hooks and mirror’s wood backing. Then I used JB Weld (left in pic #3) to glue the cleat hooks to the mirror backside (pics #3-6). I had measured their position on the mirror very carefully, marked it in ballpoint pen, and marked that in pencil on the door also. I chose to put the rails at the top and bottom, but I don’t recommend this; commentary at the end. Make sure to pick locations that don’t land in the door’s decorative recesses! After the epoxy cured, my professional assessment was that those cleats will stay adhered to the mirror through armageddon. I drilled 3/8” holes in the door and fastened the the cleat shoulder (not sure what to call it?) to the door with toggle bolts, pic #7. This was a huge pain; don’t do what I did in the picture. Rather, drop all the bolts into the cleat shoulder’s holes, then thread toggles onto all the bolts. Then patiently stuff the toggles into the door one at a time. I knew 8 bolts was overkill, but I wanted to be sure. Anyway, 5 of them failed because… I initially used 1” long bolts which were too short for my toggles, resulting in me losing several toggles inside the door and my cool—oh well. 1.25” length bolts worked great. (My door is a little less than 1.5” thick.) You may correctly note that this mounting is overconstrained—weight is only going to rest on one cleat unless they’re really well aligned. I recommend doing this: 1) shift both cleats upward as far as they can in their mounting holes, 2) loosely tighten both cleats in that position, 3) mount the mirror and let its weight shift the cleats downward, 4) carefully remove the mirror without disturbing the cleats, 5) carefully tighten the screws without shifting the cleats. And voila! Your mirror is solidly mounted to your door. I was surprised to find that I’m still able to shift the mirror around and straighten it after all the screws are tightened. I must not be understanding something here…I’m ok with that. When mounting the mirror, make sure the horns catch the shoulder! I was horrified to find I once somehow caught the mirror on the leveling bubble channel (pic #11). It’s a miracle the mirror didn’t fall and crack on my bathroom tiling. The only thing I’d do differently is NOT mount at the mirror’s top and bottom, because my mirror flaps and bows when I shut the door hard. I’d do 1/3 or 1/4 mirror’s length from the top and bottom instead. Some engineer here better than I can comment what’s stiffest for a symmetrically double-pinned beam. If you’re mounting to drywall, not a door, I’d still recommend the cleats, but toggle bolts are overkill; good metal drywall anchors will do fine. Still wouldn’t recommend plastic anchors. Best is if you’re able to screw the cleats straight into a stud. Good luck and happy homemaking! ... show more

  • Great mirrors!
Size: 48" x 24" Rectangular
I was worried I’d get those crazy funhouse mirrors where you look distorted in them. These are perfect! And they come with two options to hang them. The small tabs, or a bracket that looks almost like a minimalistic frame on the top and bottom. I went with the framed look and love it! I couldn’t be more happy with them! ... show more

  • Not difficult to install
Had it hung on my door in the bedroom. It a heavy mirror, but good looking with the beveled sides. i would recommend putting it up on a wall instead of door.

  • Beautiful, but beware
This is exactly the type if mirror I wanted….HOWEVER, if you plan on mounting it on a wall, you will need support on the bottom. The hangers on the back are really flimsy, and I wouldn’t expect them to hold the weight of this mirror long. Worth the price? Hmmm. It is a beautiful mirror, and I chose to make it a floor model, so considering the price if nice mirrors, I’d say it was worth the cost. ... show more

  • Beautiful Mirror
Size: 59" x 19" Scalloped
This mirror looks just as it is advertised. It arrived in a sturdy package, is very clear, and has no scratches. I've already received so many compliments and it was worth the hassle I went through to get it. I was shipped the wrong mirror twice, but third time was the charm, and I am happy I kept ordering it! It's heavy so it would be easier to hang with 2 people but I was also able to do it alone with a little struggling. ... show more
