I was hoping it would make dirt & not mulch looking "dirt" like I've seen on other compost reviews. So far I've run it twice & both times I've been impressed with the dry dirt it makes. This thing is whisper quiet. I didn't even know it had started the chopping process until I saw the light indicating it's chopping. Quieter than my dishwasher & air fryer. My husband hates smells & there is no odor at all. Before, during & after no smell. I guess if we start smelling something we'll know it's time to change the filters. ... show more

    • Easy to use. No smell.
This machine came packed very nicely. Instructions were clear. I have done around 6 loads so far with no issues. No noticeable smells coming from the machine. Unit uses about .85 Kwh of energy from start to finish. It took roughly 5 hours per cycle from start to finish. When it goes into the mixing/grinding mode it has a noticeable noise. If you turn on the TV or have a fan running I don't think you would notice it too much. I start mine in the morning before I leave for work for this reason. The end product itself doesn't smell bad. It is probably about a 90 percent reduction in size from before the cycle start to after the process is completed. ... show more

I’ve only used twice but was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was and how little it smelled. I was going to set in garage but it works in my kitchen. I got a sliding tray to pull out to fill and operate. I turn it on at night.

    • works but not really making compost.
We have been composting for some time in our house. when we saw the potential for instant compost it was very exciting to consider this product for our kitchen. The product was well packaged and heavy upon trying to get out of the box. the instructions are very clear although cleaning the product with use of a half container full of water is only part of the needed cleaning of the base, under bucket areas, and interstices of the device, although none of this is hard to do, it does require additional effort beyond what the instructions say. We are also developing a routine for use of the product as it does allow for a repository for our organic products in the kitchen on a daily basis. Our first use of the device was a very long cycle lasting several hours which made it uncomfortable for us to use give the larger energy demand and now higher carbon footprint. however with additional use, the times went down and now we are seeing cycles of two hours...is this kind of device really environmentally appropriate even though we are re-using organics. When we applied the content of our initial "composting" to the plants in our house, even though we mixed the soil with this new material for a good mix, the dogs and cat jumped into the dirt of the plants for the "cooked food " that it represented. With further investigation, the device does not make compost but pre-compost which can be then converted to usable compost with further processing. When we again looked at the description of the product it says it is a "composter" that converts kitchen waste into precompost....maybe they should just call it a PRECOMPOSTER.... There is an odor after the device has been working that is a little disconcerting if you use it at night. sometimes you forger that it is on and find an empty kitchen smelling like something has been cooking for a while-not a bad smell depending on the ingredients that are used, but definitely a smell. Also as expected you should cut up vegetables and fruit as you put it in the device or it can get caught in the blades of the device and set off the alarm buttons. We did however get away with some small oranges that were dried out and occasionally half an apple. It is a good PRECOMPOSTER overall and rather easy to use with one button operation. ... show more

UPDATE: After only using it twice it started showing an error and now every time I want to run it I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to go. I could understand over time if it started having problems but I have only used it twice. It shouldn’t be having problems yet, ugh. I was so excited about this too. Not to mention it didn’t even come with an instruction manual. I think I got one that was returned ugh :/ I have tried to reach out to support but haven’t heard anything back from them. Just be careful and do your research!!! I have only used it once and ran it when I was sleeping so I’m not sure how long it took. All I know is I woke up and it looked like this. Definitely not loud, more like white noise which I’m fine with. This is so much easier than turning a compost every week and dealing it the mess of that. Love this so so much!!! ... show more
