  • Reliable, powerful servo, great for digital helicopter controllers (5065MG)
The HS-5065MG and the counterparts the HS-65MG and HS-65HB are an amazing combination of power size and reliability. These are my go-to servos for small helicopters, planes and gliders. This is the digital version (HS5065-MG) there are lower cost analog versions found here: Hitec 32065S HS-65MG Mighty Feather Metal Gear Servo For most uses I prefer the Analog version, they are a bit quieter and more tolerant of being forced one way or another without burning up. Some usages such as a Helicopter systems with a Flybarless controller or tail rotor control require the digital versions for extremely accurate control. I use a lot of servos. Keeping helicopters, planes and gliders in flyable states causes me to continually build, rebuild and evaluate my servos so I write with the experience of many years and these Hitec servos are really a great combination. This Metal Geared (MG) servo weighs 11.9 grams and has 1.8kg of torque at 4.8v and 2.2kg of torque at 6.0v. Many popular helicopters and planes are designed with this size servo in mind. In general the MG servos are stronger but have a bit more play than the HB gears do. Due to these subtle differences, I pick which to use in any given situation based on how the servos will be abused. For nearly all helicopter uses, I use the 5065 digital versions, then I know I can use any digital controller such as the AR7200BX FBL system and I know it works well (that's the combination I'm using on my 450 Pro DFC right now). I didn't like the Align 410 or 415 servos and after tearing the gears out of those several times, I replaced them with 5065's and haven't had a problem since. For Glider Flaps where the gears are often stripped due to dragging on the ground during the landing, I use the MG servos. For the more sensitive Ailerons, I prefer the HB servos that maintain tighter gears and thus more accurate control. For the rudder usually use MG servos on planes with motors, HB on gliders. On planes with motors, especially 3D planes with large rudders the Prop Wash is significant and the MG servos hold up really well. I've also blown out plastic servos by bumping the large rudder via hangar rash (aka non-flying accidents). I use this size of servos in gliders up to 2meter and 3D planes up to about 54". For larger planes I step the servos up a size. These servos come with a plus shaped control horn attached and then a double and single arm servo horn in the box. They also come with four small flanged mounting screws. I'm sure you've seen the lower cost copies out there. Let me explain why, even though they may be lower in price, it'll be more difficult to use those. 1 They have less reliable quality control. Sometimes whole batches of the off brand servos are bad and once you've got it in your plane they can be a real pain to change out. Think of the pain cutting out a glued servo glued into in EPP is. 2 These servos are more accurate, center better and are more precise in their movements. 3 Do you use and toss your gear or do you re-use it? If you re-use things you really want servos that you know you can get parts for . Hitec sells servo gears, screws, horns etc so you can change broken pieces out as necessary. 4 when you need a special longer horn or special piece you know you can get that for your Hitec servos. That is not the case for many of the after-market servos. I have tried the lower cost servos and over time, it has been proven to me time and time again to stick with the name brands to get the support and parts I need. Hitec is amazing for their support, I did have one servo act weird in a rudder for me (it would wag with strong prop wash in big 3D moves. I sent it in to Hitec with a note and they promptly sent me a new one, even though they could not duplicate the issue. 5 stars, this is a great servo for a fair price and you'll enjoy these where you need small digital servos. ... show more

  • Micro T swap
I cut the mounting tabs off, cut three of the four arms off of the plastic mounting bracket that comes on it and took it one of the screws in the kit and put it throuh the second predriilled hole in the last remaining arm and dropped it in the Losi Micro T as part of an upgrade to 2.4 ghz and brushless. The screw fit perfectly in the steering drag link and I got full range of steering. I set the servo end points on the transmitter and set the speed to 100%. I’ve Got great fats steering. Amazing. Way better than the analog plastic jr sport servo Losi recommends for the conversion. ... show more

  • They are definitely worth the price
I love this servo. It is very smooth and torquey. I used it on my rc ornithopter. It needed a new rudder servo, however I just decided to get a second 5065mg for the elevator control because of how god damn good these servos are. The gears have no noticeable slop which is very important for us pilots. The ornithopter I have is basically a copy of the Sean Kinkade slowhawk. If anyone is curious, it's called the Carbonsail ornithopter; sold and made by a guy in Singapore. Website is called Ornihobby.com. ... show more

  • Tiny but mighty
This is a very lightweight servo with lots of power for its size. I find it ideal for its purpose as a rudder servo in a model racing sailboat, where weight is critical.

  • Great servos!
I can't even count how many for these I have and in various models. I love them, never had any issues. They are strong and fast. My most current sets are both running on 6v. One set is in a 55" foamie Sbach 342 and the other set is in my TechOne Neptune. Highly recommended.

Nice servos, a great step up from the "mighty feather" HS-65. My only complaint is that after a crash one of these cracked in half, and needed to be completely replaced. But at roughly 30 a piece, it's not that bad.
