  • Amazing value for an integrated amplifier
[Edit 7/23/23: 1 star removed because Bluetooth stopped working today, and upon reading other forums including Douk's own, this appears to be a common issue with this unit. However, Douk Audio support is great, and I would expect they will send out a replacement Bluetooth board to put into the unit (easy install, no soldering). Will update this review with a 5 star rating again assuming this is what happens. EDIT a couple months later: yes, this is what happened, thank you Douk Audio!) This little integrated amp does so many things and does them well: Phono preamp, power amp, vacuum tube stage, EQ controls, LFE sub out (game changer for my sub), Bluetooth 5.0 w/ APTX, and to top it off, a beautiful aesthetic design. Most importantly, it sounds downright amazing for its size and power. I switched from a Topping TP22 amp and Nobsound Hifi 6J Bluetooth tube preamp, and the change is unmistakable. Way punchier and tighter bass with the LFE out, cleaner mids and highs, much stronger dynamics in general, and no matter my audio source - vinyl, CD, tape, or BT - it all sounds great. Two caveats - 1) when using a sub via the LFE output, the bass control becomes more of a speaker crossover than an actual EQ, adjusting the mid-bass frequencies in your speakers (like 200-400Hz) and nothing in the sub. This is a little unfortunate as it means separately controlling the sub volume, but not a huge deal. 2) I had to return a unit due to a buzzing sound in the right speaker outs when in Bluetooth mode. The replacement unit had the same issue as well, but I realized by disconnecting the antenna, the noise went away. I suppose this might be BT/RF/wireless "noise" in the environment, combined with the very aggressive 320W amp powering the signal. If you get this same issue in your unit, just disconnect the antenna, it's not super necessary anyway. All said, I cannot believe this amp is the price that it is. If you have a similar setup with multiple sources and want strong, punchy, clear yet warm sound, and don't want to spend big money get the X1. • Excellent Sound and Great Value from a Compact, Powerful, Well Designed Amplifier
This compact amplifier does everything well - the tubes sweeten the digital power amp's sound, the bluetooth connection is easy to use for streaming Spotify and radio, the phono preamp sounds fine, the controls are convenient, there's enough power for medium effiency speakers, and a subwoofer output for an amplified sub. Plus there are tone controls and a good quality power supply. Everything works as it should for a very satisfying result. ... show more

  • Poor Quality in my opinion
I purchased two of these. Both returned. The first one, one of the audio channels did not work. The second one only included one tube. Sorry, I don't have time for this and am going to seek out another option. Yes, it looked really really cool sitting next to my Technics SL-1300. The sound that came out of one of my speakers did sound really great though. I would not recommend this product. Buyer beware, it does state at the bottom of the description that this is a frequently returned item. ... show more

  • Multiple inputs and plenty of volume for bookshelf speakers
This small amplifier has plenty of power to drive a pair of Polk T15 passive bookshelf speakers. The main advantage to this amplifier over others is that an MM phono input is built in so a separate preamp is not needed. Mine is set up with both turntable and CD player connected. The Tone switch adds (on) or removes (off) the tubes from the audio circuit. The base and treble control knobs have a lot more impact on the sound when the Tone control is turned on. The Base boost is noticeable with the Tone switch in either position. The speakers are less than 5 feet apart, but this amplifier has excellent channel separation. There is no hiss or hum until the volume control is over 90% of maximum. There has been no audible signal clipping with the volume under 60% which is louder than the space and neighbors can tolerate. Ordered as an open box item at a discount. It arrived without a power cord, the tube pins were bent on both tubes, and one tube had the tip broken off. The item also arrived with a rattle which turned out to be a circuit board mounting screw that was loose in the case and easy to fix. It cost under $20 to replace the tubes and power cord, so total cost still less than the new price. There is no way my setup qualifies as HiFi, but it sounds as good or better through the same speakers the full size amp/separate preamp that it replaced. The tubes seem a bit of gimmick, but I am more than satisfied with the purchase. Update - After replacing an older DVD player used for playing CD's with a new dedicated CD unit, I find the tubes do a really nice job filling out the sound of the 16 bit output from the new player. Now I am glad they are there. ... show more

  • Coolest gadget of All Time!
2 years in and finally getting to writing a review for this outstanding product. I have encountered no technical issues with this device whatsoever. Simply put this is the coolest electronic device I have ever owned. There is nothing out there in this price range or certainly in this size that can do everything that this little miracle can do. It has phono line in for turntables, auxiliary line, Hi-Fi Bluetooth connections which works amazing with my Hi-Fi streaming apps at 24 bit, subwoofer out. 100 w per channel. This thing is LOUD on my standing speakers I dedicated to this device. I have been using this device heavily for the past 2 years as it runs my living room bookshelf system and again after 2 years there is simply nothing out there that can compete with what this is capable of doing. Sound quality with bass boost and treble control is outstanding for a device of this size and price. Can an audiophile spend thousands of dollars and recreate something that sounds better. Of course! That fits in the palm of your hand for $150 or less? I don't think so. ... show more
