  • Could Use Better Traction, Otherwise Perfect
Size: 7.5 Color: Dark Grey/Navy Blue
First of all, these are the most comfortable shoes I think I've every put on my feet, and that includes slippers. I literally fell asleep with them on because I didn't want to take them off. That said, I wear between 7.5 - 8, and based on everyone else's reviews, I opted for the 7.5 to account for that much-mentioned extra wide toebox. Even so, the 7.5s are too big and I have exchanged them for a size 7. I'm never a size 7, but even in Thorlo socks, the 7.5s just didn't feel like I had security around my foot. I like my hiking shoes to hug my feet, and having worked for K2 Inline Skates in the past, I'm used to a snug around the sides, breathable toe box, and super comfortable foot bed. These shoes are really cute in the soft blue, though also looked large on my feet - like aggressive inline skates - even at the 7.5 size. With all that said, I'm in absolute love with these shoes. If these in 7s fit perfectly, clean easily AND if they're as waterproof as I hope (I cross several creeks gold panning and hiking with my dogs), they'd get 6 Stars from me - they'd surpass all percieved expectations. Once I get the 7s, I'll update if they're too small, seeing as how I'm not a 7 in anything but perhaps these. I'll also update on waterproof-ness. For the record, I am replacing my KEEN Targhees which I LOVE, but both the soles started peeling off(!) until both soles completely came off over just a couple of years. KEEN (which I would've opted for, but presently cannot afford) has great customer support, and they suggested I use Barge Cement to resole the shoes. Even with the strong cement, they're nowhere near as secure as new hiking boots. For around $64 with tax, these Hi-Tecs may just well replace my love affair with KEEN. UPDATE: I got the 7s, and they are too small. That roomy-feeling toe box doesn't hug my feet snugly like my KEENs, but on my home, my foot moves forward a bit and that large, roomier toe of the 7.5 ended up being perfect, and I returned the 7s. One thing I did notice - there's this pipe I cross in a creek nearby to get into the wood, and in my KEENs, I don't slip on the otherwise slimy covered pipe. In these Hi-Tecs, I slipped. Therefore, the traction of the KEEN soles is much better - same applied with climbing mushy/muddy ledges; these Hi-Tecs don't have as great traction, although it's not bad. Just not AS good as my KEENs. Great for ther price, and definitely waterproof. ... show more

  • I find these light duty hiking boots.
Size: 8.5 Color: Medium Grey
Just okay…if I could return them I would.

  • Feel big
Size: 8.5 Color: Medium Grey
My feet run from an eight to an 8 and 1/2 and buying shoes online this becomes a problem. I'll get an eight and it'll be too small so the next time I'll get an eight and a half and it's too big. And that's where I'm at with most boots. I would wear an 8 and 1/2 so I thought it would go with that size and they are very big. You definitely can wear a very thick sock with them at this rate. There's not like a lot of padding but the sole is very thick. With that said, I can definitely put in an insole even though I hate doing that with my shoes. Even pulling on the laces it doesn't tighten it enough to make my foot feel completely secure unless I do put in an insole. They're very nice color and I do love the purple laces it compliments each other rather well. They say they're waterproof and I think I could probably feel that as they're just one complete seam except for the tongue. They do make my feet look big but if I am on a hike or in the mud or whatever, I guess that really doesn't matter. I do love the thick sole on them and also the contrasting colors. If you're looking for a good pair of hiking boots, I can really recommend these as they do feel quite comfortable. They just feel like there's a lot of space in there. The price isn't too bad given the fact of inflation. Let's just hope they stand the test this time and they are durable. If I have anything negative that comes up over time of wearing them, I'll come back and update. Otherwise I say go ahead and try them. ... show more

  • So far so good.
Size: 7 Color: Medium Grey
1st impression are great. Outsole are thick and sturdy. The insoles are ortholite which provides a nice cushion and support. I've only taken it out once, only a semi rocky hiking trail. It gave me nice traction and kept my foot comfortable. My only gripe is that it may run half a size bigger atleast it feels like it to me. ... show more

  • About 1/2 size bigger than expected. Super rugged with great traction.
Size: 7 Color: Medium Grey
Sizing is about 1/2 size bigger than expected, so thicker socks are needed for comfortable fit -- perhaps that was by design? These boots are super rugged and have great traction, and my wife just did a 10 mile hike in them last weekend -- no blisters, no soreness.

  • Comfortable. Nice Quality. A Little Big.
Size: 7 Color: Medium Grey
For reference, I typically wears size 7 (and sometimes 6 ½) shoes on my narrow feet. I ordered these in size 7 in the color “Medium Grey.” I picked this color mostly because I’m a fan of purple, and though I was worried about the grey tone, which looks almost like a mossy green in the product images, I was pleased to see that it is actually a pure grey color in person, so I’d say these look much better than I had anticipated. On my narrow feet, these are rather roomy, so this is one of the cases where I might have benefited from sizing down to a 6 ½, but they’re still totally wearable and comfortable. And while they are comfortable, they’ll still have to be broken in, as I can feel spots that would obviously blister if I tried to take a long hike without first doing so. When last I went hiking with my husband, I was unable to traverse certain obstacles due to owning only inappropriate footwear coupled with my terrible balance. These shoes remedy at least part of that equation, so I now feel more confident trekking across more challenging terrain since they are able to grip fantastically to such non-uniform terrain, which is exactly perfect! Upon my novice examination, these seem extremely well-made and durable. Nothing about them seems cheap, down to the very shoebox, which is definitely a keeper for me. The fact that these are advertised to be waterproof was what finalized my decision to order them, so I’m happy for that feature, though I haven’t had any opportunity to determine how accurate that claim is. Overall, I’m pleased with these and would recommend sizing down one half size, at least if you have narrow feet. ... show more
