Do think about the range of climate, especially if it is becoming warmer and wetter. In Colorado, we get a lot of snow and cold weather, but the snow has generally been dry powder. These boots get good traction and are warm enough with normal cotton or wool stockings. In the rare times when the snow becomes wet/heavy or makes deep puddles, some moisture enters the stockings either through the sides or over the top. I would certainly buy an alternate pair if they offered a higher top and/or traded less ventilation for more waterproofing. That way I could save the current version for dryer weather. ... show more

I purchased these boots for a two week Alaska trip with lots of hiking AND rain. They were fabulous and far exceeded my expectations. They were comfortable, great fit (8.5, average width feet). I wore them all day long, in weather that ranged from misting to heavy rain. My feel stayed dry and I experienced no discomfort at all - no blisters, sore spots or any discomfort. I never received the shoes. I contacted Amazon and was asked to wait a couple more days. I did so, but sadly did not receive them. I previously had a pair of these for over five years and I LOVE THESE SHOES, but had a hard time finding some to replace the old ones. Thirst hiking boots are fantastic. I go out to help with the animals as much as I can a d my feet which have bad arthritis in them are now feeling much better at the end of the day. Very comfortable, waterproof is a plus. I highly recommend thes.

I use these hiking boots for light trail hiking. They are lightweight and very comfortable. Not really sure yet how waterproof they will turn out to be. They serve my purpose very well.
