  • Robust Storage with a Few Caveats
Capacity: 14TB - SE
I've been using the HGST WD Ultrastar DC HC530 14TB Data Center HDD (Renewed) for a few months now, and here's my honest take on it. Pros: Massive Storage: With 14TB of space, this drive can handle an impressive amount of data. Whether you're running a data center or just need a ton of personal storage, this HDD has got you covered. Performance: The 6Gb/s SATA interface provides solid data transfer speeds. I've noticed that large file transfers and backups are relatively quick, which is crucial for my needs. Reliability: Despite being a renewed product, it has been running smoothly without any hiccups. The HGST brand has a good reputation for durability and reliability, and this drive lives up to that standard. Cons: Noise Level: This HDD is a bit noisier than I'd like. During heavy read/write operations, there's a noticeable hum. It's not a deal-breaker, but if you're sensitive to noise, it might be something to consider. Heat Generation: It does run a bit warm. I've had to ensure proper ventilation in my setup to avoid overheating issues. Investing in a good cooling system might be a good idea if you plan to use this drive extensively. Renewed Product: While mine has been working fine, there's always a bit of a gamble with renewed products. Make sure to check the seller's return policy just in case. Overall, the HGST WD Ultrastar DC HC530 14TB HDD offers excellent value for its storage capacity and performance. It's especially great if you're on a budget and need a high-capacity solution. Just keep in mind the potential for noise and heat, and you should be good to go! ... show more

  • RAID Array - GOOD Results -- Save Money!
Capacity: 10TB - SE
Anytime your buying something 'repurposed', especially computer equipment, it can be a bit scary because your relying on the intermediary to validate that they are providing a working product. I'm skeptical. I've worked a few years at a Datacenter (FAANG Company) and know the abuse that these devices get put through. I decided to purchase this product, but perform full benchmark testing, and do a complete read, read/write and distributive test. I bought two at different times to make sure I get different batches. All test passed, and both are currently in use as a RAID 1, hosting my personal, critical, family pictures. Dont be afraid, save some money, and buy this!! ... show more

  • These drives are sold as renewed but no way they are.
Capacity: 14TB - SE
It not only doesn't work but I don't believe it has been renewed at all. It still shows 28,000 hours. When you diagnose the drive it should show '0' hours but my "renewed" hdd shows over 28,000 hours. Amazon tells you that you will have to speak directly with the supplier but Amazon is unable to tell you how to contact the supplier. It is also difficult to arrange to send the drives back and get a replacement. I am having a hard time trying to fill out all the paperwork. ... show more

  • Great for starting your homelab
Capacity: 14TB - SE
Big enough to provide ample storage, cheap enough to run redundancy. I bought 3, all under 5 years old all under 3 years run time, no bad sectors or issues after running SMART testing. Have been in use about 6 months now with 0 issues.

  • A few notes
Capacity: 10TB - SE
There is a bit of misleading information presented in some of these,, contending it is a "new" standard for sleep to the hard drive and some power supplies do not support. You can go out and buy the newest PCI-E 5.0 ready PSU you can find and most right now do not handlle this, as it is a standard more for the server/data center market than it is the desktop market. So if you think: well, I'll just buy a hot off the line PSU and it will fix this issue with needing adapters you're going to be wrong. These drives have solid value, perform as expected and surprisingly have normal runtimes on them with reasonable power cycles. Putting them back into a similar configuration (I have 8 combines in a TrueNas ZFS array) is fine as you will get the use on them but you're still protected against some loss - but remember, RAID IS NOT BACKUP. Again RAID IS NOT BACKUP. That's what also makes these a great value. Get a larger second unit or two to actually use as a targetted backup location. Always plan for multiple levels of redundancy! ... show more
