Description

HGST Enterprise class, 7200 RPM, SATA III 6.0Gb/s 4TB hard drive for high- capacity nearline environments, Heavy Duty Enhancing data safety and security To ensure the utmost in data safety and security, the HGST Ultrastar A7K4000 is also available with a bulk data encryption (BDE) option. When enabled, the Hitachi BDE implementation encrypts all data on the drive using a private security key as it is written to the disk, and then decrypts it with the key as it is retrieved, giving users an extreme level of data protection. Unlike softwarebased encryption solutions, the Hitachi BDE implementation is hardware-based, so it doesn’t slow the system down. This technology also speeds up and simplifies the drive re-deployment and decommissioning process. By deleting the encryption key, the data is rendered unreadable, thereby eliminating the need for time-consuming, multi-pattern data overwrite. Delivering industry-leading reliability With a robust fourth-generation mechanical design, HGST Ultrastar A7K4000 is specifically built and tested for the enterprise. The Ultrastar SATA drive family features Hitachi-patented Rotational Vibration Safeguard (RVS) sensor technology, which optimizes drive reliability in multi-drive RAID arrays and rack-mounted systems. Backed by a five-year warranty, the Ultrastar platform has earned Hitachi a reputation among server and storage vendors as a global partner dedicated to delivering the highest quality and reliability in the industry. Applications: Power PC/Workstation Servers CCTV DVR Security & Surveillance Systems NAS (Network Attached Storage) RAID System

  • Recondition drives have SMART data wiped, show 5+ years of use
Drive is in excellent condition, came Amazon re-certified. Upon checking the smart data, the existing smart data was all wiped. The smart log did record the actual hour utilization however: SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1 Num Test_Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error # 1 Vendor (0xb0) Completed without error 00% 47376 - # 2 Vendor (0x71) Completed without error 00% 47376 - It is not possible to know if there are any bad or relocated sectors, or any other info. :/ Good drive as long as one has backups or just needs temporary disk. ... show more

I bought 2 of them. Bought the first one when it arrived i plugged it in it said 2TB instead of the 4TB that i purchased ...returned that one thinking it was a honest mistake and ordered another one. when the second one arrived i plugged it in and this one was 1.6TB ...so i definitely will not recommend any refurbished hard drives especially these ... show more

  • Buyer beware
This drive on initial install had 387 bad sectors on it and increased daily as my NAS ran system diagnostics. This was nothing more than a heavily used drive. I used to buy refurbished HGST disks because I have had great performance. The quality in the refurbished drive business is clearly not what it used to be and I am now back to buying new. Losing all my important business files or family photos is not worth the $60 I would save on these disks. Buyer beware..... if you don’t run a regular diagnostic on these drives, you may not know you are installing someone else’s trash. ... show more

  • Great production but super loud
During read operations it is fine but if writing anything to the drive it creates a LOT of noise. And because I keep a low noise profile due to the NAS also being in the same room as me this is kind of a deal breaker. If I had the NAS somewhere away from me then it wouldn't be an issue and I do still highly recommend this for anyone as it seems to be great quality drive for cheap. Unfortunately for me I will have to return it due to how loud it is when writing to it and I have lots of videos (wife teaches and records the sessions) being saved to regularly. Compared to Seagate and WD which make almost no noise at all, this one is clearly noticable from the second it was being added into the RAID. I had hoped it would stop after it finally got added in but I was wrong. ... show more

  • Renewed
I didn’t realize this was a refurbished HD. It was my fault for not reading the full title. I guess they were hoping I wouldn’t notice and I didn’t. I like HGST drives. Thankfully, I don’t need this for something critical. I’ll update review once I install it and put it to work.

  • Heavy duty, Hitachi
Fits well in hard drive rack. Drive must be formatted before use or shows 0gb if installed in NAS system. After formatting and installed drive spins up very quickly. Drive is much louder but thats expected from an enterprise drive! Its HEAVY DUTY!

  • DOA....
tried to create synology array and it was struggling to do so. After testing overnight multiple bad sectors showed up. The worst part that this seller clears S.M.A.R.T information so there is no way to know how old the drive is and all mapped bad sectors are alive again. Savings are not worth the time lost ... show more
