Have bought 3 of these mic stands. One, the clutch started to slip. Company replaced it no questions. We own Hercules guitar stands as well.

This mic stand, which I use sans boom to hold a Moog Etherwave+ theremin, is my third Hercules product (the others being a heavy-duty adjustable Z keyboard stand and adjustable folding keyboard bench). Compared to the other two products' superb build quality, this mic stand has been a disappointment. Although it's stable enough to support a modest load such as a mic and boom, there are two significant deficiencies to be aware of: 1) The "Quik-N-EZ Mic Clip [that] mounts and dismounts with a flip of the lever" is wobbly because the cam that the lever engages doesn't clamp the base of the mic clip to the top of the pole tightly enough. 2) The grip of the "Quik-N-EZ Clutch for easy adjustments" is covered with a soft rubberized material that degrades over time and becomes very sticky (orange oil-based cleaning products can cause this). Who wants sticky hands after adjusting the microphone height? Not me. I solved the first problem by eschewing the quick-release mount and screwing the theremin's flange mount directly onto the threaded fitting at the pole's end – but why pay for a quick-release mechanism, then? I've not found a solution for the second problem except to avoid making height adjustments and to wash my hands after touching the grip. ... show more

    • Pretty decent mic stand!
Bought this a few weeks ago after having worn out 3 Pro Line stands in the last year. This one is much more sturdy and feels much heavier. Love the clutch for the height adjustment and it makes set up much easier even though that's something I never thought would make much difference. We'll see how long this one lasts! ... show more

    • Great Stand
Ok, This is the way as mic stand should be made. Not too heavy, but sturdy. Easy to adjust, easy to take apart, and reasonably compact when folded. It is worth the extra $ in my opinion, especially if you are going to be setting up and taking it down regularly. The only slight ding I would have, is that the bracket for the boom is not quite as sturdy as I would like to see due to the way the boom angle clutch operates (it basically squeezes the two ears together). It should be OK, but we will see. The boom in/out adjustment is very good, and easy to operate. ... show more

    • Not as good as I hoped.
The stand is adequate, but the boom is not strong enough to hold our microphones. They keep drooping with the weight. When we get our vintage mics on it, they won't be strong enough. I have to really torque it to keep the mic up when I play the keyboard. I'm worried that with setting up and tearing down over and over, the little knob won't be strong enough and will give out. If you are looking for durable equipment for gigs on the road, I would suggest spending more and getting something more substantial. ... show more

    • Good ideas, not the sturdiest construction
ok - this is not an el-cheapo stand. But it did cost me some change, and ultimately I feel like I paid for features, not quality. The features are nice. The (up and down) clutch works well, and so does the handy microphone changer device. But the tubing is a little on the thin side, and the boom clutch slips much more easily than any of my other stands. And that is the problem. ... show more

    • Damn near useless....
After spending over $70, I thought I'd get something better than this. #1, the twist-clutch that secures the boom angle has to be tightened with a vise grip around the cheap little plastic knurled wheel to get it tight enough to keep the boom from sagging with anything but a feather weight microphone at the end. #2, (I should have seen this first) the boom is a single shaft / length. So if you want a short boom for tight stages, the other end is going to be sticking out and in the face of your bandmate to your right. #3, worst of all, the stinking fittings are all non-standard, preventing the use of any other mic stand hardware using the standard 5/8" fittings. So, having thrown away the shipping boxes, I'm stuck with this near-useless P.O.S. About the only good thong I can say about this stand is the quick release grip-style clutch instead of the old knurled screw-type for the extension of the vertical tube. ... show more
