  • Great for the price
Size: 50L (Medium) Color: 598 Navy
I got it for $66 and for that price it can’t be beat. Feels very durable and waterproof. I’m not sure about the tongue style opening yet, it’s a little weird and unnecessary. Nice daisy chaining for external hook ons. Five stars because of the price, four stars if it were $100

  • Super Glue makes this a Super Bag
Size: 30L (Small) Color: 990 Black
Review for Helly Hansen Duffel Bag 2 30-Liter Black. Disclosure: This has been my main travel bag for almost a year now and it's seen two weeks in Australia and New Zealand, multiple flights back and forth between California and Texas, and many weekend trips. I have not used the previous version of the bag. 3.75 stars Pros: - Backpack straps are great and tuck away nicely (albeit just a little difficult) - Most straps are fairly rugged feeling - One large main compartment with an inner mesh pocket and one outer zippered pocket (perfect for my Kindle) - Very water resistant - Looks sharp Cons: - Velcro stitching on the handle came undone during my trip abroad - Beefier thread and stitching would have been appreciated - Beefier zippers would have been nice - Could be a touch lighter Overall I really like this bag and have no plans to replace it. The 30 liter size was great for a minimalist two week trip and perfect for any shorter ones. The shape of the bag lends to fitting in almost any space in planes or cars. Unfortunately I really wish the quality of the stitching was up to par, because then it'd be a 4.5 star bag. However, a few dabs of super glue and the Velcro patch is now actually more secure than it was. I did have this bag stuffed to the max at 25 pounds when it happened. Under normal use I could see it lasting much longer. ... show more

  • Perfect Carry-On Bag
I bought this bag specifically for use as a carry-on. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Although I'm newer to the carry-on game (my family got me into the expensive habit of always checking bags), I'd say this is around maximum carry-on size. I took it for a six day trip to California and it was absolutely perfect. This bag has SO MUCH ROOM. I fit everything I needed plus a book or two, extra shoes, my computer, etc. The material appears to be extremely durable and it would probably take a small dinosaur to tear through it. The backpack straps are sturdy, though I do wish it included a chest strap for extra comfort/support. After walking around LAX for a half hour with this thing full, my shoulders were definitely a bit sore. Otherwise, I would absolutely recommend this as a perfect long weekend/camping/getaway bag. My boyfriend has a 60L Patagonia Black Hole that he paid a LOT more money for (I paid $48 for this guy) and I think my duffel is just as great. The one picture shows what it looks like/how big it is when you use the shoulder straps. For reference, I am 5'10". ... show more

  • Excellent bag, fits in the overhead bin, well built.
Size: 50L (Medium) Color: 990 Black
This product is as described and held up excellent during my recent trip to Italy. The bag is malleable, sturdy, and well designed. The zippers worked every single time with out any hang up, even when the bag was stuffed to it's maximum capacity. The zipper pocket on the main flap was useful. I managed to fit a JBL Flip 4 speaker, a belt, suspenders, bowtie, various charging cables, and portable battery pack with out any issues. This trip also required me to have a Tux and a suit for a welcome dinner and wedding, I managed to pack both of those, and three pairs of shoes into the bag along with 2 weeks worth of clothes for Italy. The bag fit into the overhead bins of the international flight I took on British Airways, and none of the flight attendants gave me any issues regarding the size of the bag not being regulation. I fit this and my 40L Backpack into the overhead bin with out issues! ... show more

  • 5 years later... Still Great
Size: 70L (Medium) Color: 990 Black
Update: Three more sailing trips and countless weekend getaways, and this bag is still my go-to luggage. For business travel I'll use a hard sided roller. For everything else, this is the bag. Original: I bought the 70 liter bag for a week long sailing trip. It was perfect for the trip, and I'm looking forward to using it on future trips. The logos are a little over the top, and the shoulder straps aren't that comfortable, but it is still a great bag. The 70 liter size was perfect for a week on the boat. The U shaped zipper allows the bag to be opened wide, and contents can be sorted through easily. The bag seems reasonably durable, but time will tell. I compared this bag to the North Face Base Camp duffel. I decided that the North Face bag looks nicer, but it wasn't worth the extra expense to me. I caught mine on sale for $50 (black 70L), but I still would have chosen it at $70 like it is now. ... show more

  • OK, but not as sturdy as original Helly Hansen duffles
I'm a big fan of the earlier Helly Hansen duffle bags (with the shiny textured PVC tarpaulin fabric), so I decided to give the new version a try. The update uses a smoother, matte PVC fabric (similar to other all-weather duffles), and the design is essentially the same - a flap that opens parallel to the length of the duffle, backpack straps that can be stowed inside the flap, one interior mesh pocket, same dimensions, etc. However, the construction doesn't seem as robust as the earlier version - the fabric seems lighter, the straps are definitely less wide and thinner, and the zippers are not as sturdy. On the old version, the outside bottom panel was not PVC coated (although it was coated on the inside), but it was a sturdy nylon with a water-resistant coating. The outside bottom panel on the new version seems to be uncoated nylon or polyester, although the inside bottom still has the PVC coating. While it might keep moisture out of the bag, it looks like the bottom of the duffle will get wet and stay wet. Helly Hansen makes high quality outdoor equipment, and I'm sure this bag will be adequate for most travel situations, but the construction just seems to be less sturdy than version 1.0. The old version was always a bit heavy, but its over-engineered construction justified the weight - this new version is almost the same weight but with a less robust feel. My advice is to grab one of the older versions while they are still available (not for long)! ... show more
