Made with our waterproof Helox+ fabric technology, the iconic Moss Rain Coat keeps you dry in downpour. We borrowed inspiration from the 1950s Helly Hansen fisherman's raincoat to create the Moss. Love this raincoat. It fits great, is so versatile for rain and wind, and is made well. It really keeps the rain out. I wore it every day on a trip to a rainy location and never got wet and it was so comfortable. It also folds well for packing in a suitcase.

I bought this jacket based on the Wirecutter recommendation. Now I regret it. The hood flops down over my face, and the drawstring adjustment doesn't stop it. It would be dangerous to drive a boat, a bike or an ATV in this coat. My Marmot jacket has an adjustment that pulls on the back of the hood to size it to your head, which is vastly better. The cuffs seal with a snap. There's only one position. My last 2 or 3 rain jackets had velcro cuff closures, which were easier to fasten, more secure and more adjustable. I'm afraid these cuffs are going to leak if I raise my arms in heavy rain. I just wore the jacket in moderate rain, with temperature in the high 70s. It quickly got uncomfortably steamy anc damp inside. I guess this is an OK jacket for commuting or shopping, but definitely not suitable for serious outdoor use. ... show more

The jacket is good looking and comfortable, but if you plan to spend a couple hours in pouring rain, then don't expect to be 100% dry. I would say this jacket is maybe 90% rainproof. I was watching my kids soccer games in a heavy rain, not using an umbrella because I was proud of my good looking HH yellow coat. Hood up, and zipped up tight, the weather exposure started. After about 30 minutes of heavy rain, I realized I needed to remove my phone from coat pocket because the wetness was starting to compromise the pocket. Not terribly, but enough that I didn't want to risk my phone in there, so I moved it to a pocket of my better rain proofed pants. After about 2 hours watching soccer in the heavy rain, I remained comfortable and warm with my underlying layers, but in the end fair amount of moisture had seeped into the jacket material. It took about 2 days of the jacket hanging in my garage near a heater to get it fully dry again. The disappointment is that I really like the HH brand, but my cheaper and more plasticy yellow rain jacket had provided the 100% water proofing that I expected from this very nice HH yellow rain jacket. If you are looking for a thin rain jacket that provides pretty water resistance as an exterior shell for over your other layers, then this is a good jacket, but if you want a 100% rain proof jacket, then keep looking. ... show more

    • The pockets. Why? ☹️

This jacket is amazing in ALMOST every way. Fit is amazing. Construction is amazing. Quality jacket. But the pockets are horizontal and open from the top. When you’re standing or walking in the rain, you want to keep your hands dry by sliding them into vertical pockets, on the sides. These pockets open from the top. Water runs in. And it’s an awkward position to keep your hands. Is that not-picky? Yep. But it rains a lot where I live. ... show more

The rain coat will keep you dry in the heaviest downpour. I like the feel of the material; it's somewhat heavy, but that gives it a solid feeling. The hood is plenty large enough, but lacks an adjustment to keep it up and off your face.

I've had other raincoats that made me sweat more than I would have gotten rained on... but, this one breathes well enough that I can work a little without smothering in my own sweat. Surprising!
