  • Great lubricant for fine moving parts, such as camera lens internals
I originally purchased this stuff for an old camera lens that I had bought and was cleaning and restoring. I used it to replace the old mold-riddled stuff, pretty much any part of it that moved. I must say, this stuff works great, as it provides a nice, smooth action, and it lasts quite a while. It comes in a rather small tub, but trust me, a little will go a long way. It is a creamy gel-like substance, kind of like a white toothpaste. It spreads onto your part easily with either a toothpick, swab, or whatever your tool of choice is. I've ended up using this stuff on other lenses since then, and I am satisfied with the results. ... show more

  • Specified for Nikon repair
Last year I purchased a super wide angle lens from Japan. Unfortunately the aperture was stuck closed. The seller refunded me and let me keep the lens so I decided to try fixing it. With some 99% alcohol I was By able to clean the aperture. (Lubricant wicked onto blades) Being 30 years old, the lens mechanism desperately needed lubrication. This is the stuff! It doesn’t migrate. It doesn’t give off vapors that could coat the interior surfaces of your lens. It doesn’t attack plastic. The viscosity is correct for auto focus lenses. Yes it’s expensive but it’s used in lenses that cost thousands of dollars. I recommend this product. I am not associated with this product or any other product. I purchased this product ... show more

  • The right Grease for the Right Application
It is tough to find a grease that is NLGI #1 (Wiki NLGI). This fit the bill and works in my application. The only other NLGI #1 that I could find came in cases of a dozen larger doses or more and would have cost me over $200+ ... and I only need an ounce or two. I am finding that many people who build their own 3D printers (and other applications) use 'something somebody said was good on the internet' (OK, so I am going to recommend peanut butter). Do the research! There is a difference between Grease and Oil (and dry Teflon coatings) and the applications of each. There are huge differences in different greases (an Aircraft Carrier uses something like 400 different types of grease). Do the research. Trust the science. Figure out why a guy on the other end of the internet, who seems to know what is up, actually uses the grease/oil/Teflon/other lubricant. "It works for me" is the wrong answer. ... show more

  • Adequate for the Task
I am not sure that I am the best guy to review this product as I have only worked on a few lenses so far. Plus I don't have a lot of experience to see how it holds up over time which in my mind is the real test of any helicoid grease. It seems to do the job well, but I was expecting a higher viscosity product as it looks to my eyes that the heat of the summer sun might make this product melt and run into the barrel. But that is only speculation on my part. I am sure that the folks manufacturing helicoid grease know a lot more than me. So I will keep using it and see what happens over time. ... show more

  • It's not thin, it's thick
The other review saying this is too thin is wrong, Helimax XP is actually a little thicker than other helicoid greases such as Japan Hobby Tool Grease #10. After I disassembled, cleaned, and greased my lens with Helimax XP, it felt a little stiffer. It feels good and avoids the oil separation issues that #10 grease has. ... show more
