First off, this is a knock of Chinese portable gaming console that vaguely resembles a Switch. There are other similar items out there, I've seen one from My Arcade on the shelf at a Wallgreens and have reviewed another here on Amazon. What you get is pretty basic: A 3.5" screen, a Famicom clone chip/emulator with a built in 500-in-1 rom loaded. It is loaded with games they obviously don't have rights to. So for the positives on this item: It can connect to the TV with the included A/V cable and the signal was pretty good when I tested it. Additionally, this is one of the rare ones that includes a second controller and allows you to play two player. The included 500 games have a pretty good mix of action and other titles. There's probably something for everyone there. The screen is crystal clear and the volume knob works well. The buttons and D-Pad have a decent responsive feel to them. A USB charger is included which is handy. But all of this doesn't outweigh the negatives I see. As this is a standard 500-in-1 bootleg rom from China, there's no save games or any NES / Famicom game that uses a battery save. So you're not going to get some classic titles like Zelda, Dragon Warrior or Final Fantasy. This limits the game selection to arcady titles which is fine in my opinion for a portable. There are four face buttons, when for NES you only need two. Also for boasting two player option, there very few games in the library on the device that support (simultaneous) two players. The Double Dragon series, and Contra are about it. Most of these faults are common for devices of this class, so as far as these go I am willing to accept that. However there are worse things to mention. There's something weird going on with the screen resolution on this device resulting in nauseating pixel crawl whenever the screen scrolls. For platformers like the included Super Mario Bros series this is almost in itself is a deal breaker. Adding more insult to injury sound emulation is WAY off. Nothing sounds right compared to the original games. Mushrooms in Mario sound like a cheap cell phone ring tone. To put the cherry on the top for the badness on display, everything is running about 20% faster than it should. It's like playing Mario on turbo mode. This has a major impact on both the music and gameplay, making some games like Double Dragon almost unplayable. In conclusion, if you are looking for a cheap toy to play some retro games, I'd recommend you keep looking. ... show more

Got this for the kids, mainly, but I hoped my husband would like it too. He doesn't really, but the kids absolutely love it. There are tons of games to choose from, and while the quality isn't great on many of them, it still keeps my children entertained. The price point is perfect for it.

There are numerous hand held retro gaming devices available with generally the same games, but what sets this one apart is the quality of the controls. They work just as well as the game pad that comes with an original system. The D-pad easily registers diagonal directions and rolling motions. There is also a thumb stick of sorts next to the D-pad that can be used if you prefer that. It has a 2nd controller for 2-player and it includes cables to output to a larger display if you want. The game selection is pretty extensive, but some titles have multiple duplicates in the library. There are also some uncommon titles. One of my favorites is the NES Macross game. There are also way more Super Mario games than have ever been published and they go off in some weird tangents. A very simplified version of Angry Birds is even on there! One bonus is that the packaging says that the system has a 1200mAh battery but I found a 2450mAh battery inside. That's double the capacity and it was a nice find! This would make a great nostalgic gift for the older gamer, or to show someone younger what games used to be like! ... show more
