  • Fantastic light and you CAN use LED bulbs in it with no problem.
I installed this light at my entry door in a matter of minutes. Despite what other reviewers have mentioned I used four Philips 458687 60W equivalent dimmable B12 decorative candle LED light bulbs with warm glow effect and had absolutely no problems with them at all. They do not flicker or buzz and they produce warm, bright light that is perfect for the area I am using it in. The light fixture has a two stage brightness option and the bulbs work fine with that as well. After installing the light I had to reset it using the light switch to get it into test mode. I set the sensitivity to where I wanted it and it works absolutely perfectly. I would highly recommend this motion light. Here is a link to the bulb I used for your review Philips 458687 60W Equivalent Dimmable B12 Decorative Candle LED Light Bulb with Warm Glow Effect (4-Pack) ... show more

  • Great light, buy!
The media could not be loaded. Just what I was looking for. A lower ambient setting to illuminate the front door, it even adds some nice curb appeal lighting for the house. I have the motion detection set at 3/4, hits me right as I walk up to the door. For those of you who don’t follow directions, make sure you keep to the recommended wattage on the bulbs. It’s a plastic housing and the heat will cause you issues. Reading off of previous reviews, hit or miss in LED lighting. LED lighting will not work. I tried two brands, one that I had, then I bought new at Lowe’s that said they were dimmable. The ones I had flashed indicating they cannot handle the low voltage levels, I did not see a change in brightness with the new ones. Incandescent it is. Paired with a ring door bell, great security feature. ... show more

  • The Truth About LED Bulbs...
I installed this fixture in the exterior foyer ceiling of my front porch. The translucent diffusion octagon is real glass and it's quite heavy... (The fixture base with the electronics is surprising light)... And, unfortunately, yes, my glass-octagonal diffuser was cracked when it arrived. I decided to keep it anyway. I have flaws too, so it fits right in. My install is protected and I can make it work. (BTW... People... Don't bash products with one-star reviews because you're mad about shipping damage. Shipping happens.) I used 8W Dimmable LED Candelabra Bulb 5000K, E12 Base with Frosted Glass Torpedo Candle Bulbs. They worked well for me. When you first turn it on, it will flicker (wildly)... It goes through a 90-second calibration cycle. Don't freak. (Like I did.) So... Let's talk FLICKERING... YES. IT WILL FLICKER DURING THE CALIBRATION CYCLE. AND, YES... IT WILL FLICKER if you run many types of LED bulbs *IF* YOU DISABLE THE DUAL BRITE FEATURE. *IF* you run dimmable LED E12 Bulbs AND you set it in Dual-Brite Mode it won't flicker. It seems that if the LED bulbs get completely cool they will flicker until they warm up a bit. (Keep in mind it was designed for incandescent bulbs.) It will also flicker wildly if you run less than 4 blubs. You will have to spend some time in the test mode to get it dialed in with the sensitivity for auto-on motion detection. I believe It works on a heat signature differential so it might behave differently in Winter and Summer and it will detect you sooner without a jacket or hat on. (The jacket and hat insulates your heat signature and makes it harder to detect you) Expect to spend some time fussing with it. I didn't have to use the blinders; at least not yet. I think the diffuser covers some of the "eye" so you'll have to reinstall it to accurately test its ability to detect which gets a bit tedious. (like this review... :-)... ... show more

  • Overall great motion detection ceiling light, various detection performance and caution on using LED
Looking for ceiling light with motion detection to replace the ceiling light at my back door porch. I want motion detection so when I go into the house from my detached garage, I can see the way and the entrance. I don't need the light all the time (dusk to dawn feature) only when me, my family or someone walk by. I actually replaced all my outdoor wall lantern with motion detection. I was surprised there aren't more products of motion detection ceiling other than 2 both from heath Zenith. It's easy to install compared to many various ceiling light I've installed at home. Build quality is great. The shade is glass so no worry of deteriorate even if having direct sunlight. My issues are: 1. You can use LED bulbs, but you will need dimmable ones even if you have disabled the DualBrite feature. I first tried non-dimmable LED as I don't use DualBrite but there were occasional serious flickering. So, the dimmer is actually doing something even when DualBrite is disabled. I changed to dimmable LED bulbs and everything has been working fine since. 2. The motion detection performance is not consistent among different lamp. The first one I installed could detect like 20 feet away at highest sensitivity which to me was good enough, the second one was even better like 25 feet. I saw some complains about the motion detection, so might be they got a weaker or defective one. 3. I bought the "like new" condition from Amazon Warehouse, same as my previous experience, they have very bad quality control. One has stuck timer selection switch, the other one has bent mounting screw and heavily scratched glass. I took me 2 exchanges to get one actually "like new". ... show more

  • Piece of Junk
I ordered this because our new house has a dangerous half step leading up to the front door. We desperately needed a good motion detector light. Amazon delivered it quickly and an electrician installed it immediately. Light worked for maybe a month. Then it started to reverse what it was supposed to do: It stayed on when there was no motion, but turned off as soon as someone came into view. Talk about dangerous! First the light blinded you, then it flicked off. We figured that maybe the light was installed wrong, that some wires were crossed. By this time, however, we were into the holiday season and the electrician wasn't able to return until today. He spent an hour trying to fix it. Turns out that the motion detection feature broke and there's no way to repair it. The only way to use this light is to leave it on at all times. And now, of course, it's too late to return for a refund. ... show more
