Description

The single objective of this book is to provide engineers with the capability, tools, and confidence to solve real-world heat transfer problems. It includes many advanced topics, such as Bessel functions, Laplace transforms, separation of variables, Duhamel's theorem, and complex combination, as well as high order explicit and implicit numerical integration algorithms. These analytical and numerical solution methods are applied to topics not considered in most textbooks. Examples are heat exchangers involving fluids with varying specific heats or phase changes; heat exchangers in which axial conduction is a concern; and regenerators. To improve readability, derivations of important results are presented completely, without skipping steps, which reduces student frustration and improves retention. The examples in the book are ubiquitous, not trivial “textbook” exercises. They are rather complex and timely real-world problems that are inherently interesting.   • An exemplary work in engineering and heat transfer
This book is definitely the best textbook I have seen to date in heat transfer (Keep in mind that I have read books from Bejan, Cengel, Incropera, and Holaman). This review is intended to correct (in my opinion) an inaccurate statement made by one of the reviewers about this book: I respect your opinion about the book not having enough real life examples, but come on..., we know that your statement is not valid at all. This book has the MOST real life examples in one textbooks and if you run into a heat transfer problem , chances that you will see an example that EXACTLY fits that problem is pretty high. How do you define real life examples? And what is your definition of it is important. Perhaps you were seeking for examples in another subject and could not find it? So don't blame it on this book. Also anyone who says the software used in the textbook is all EES and so forth... Have you ever paid some attention to computer programming as an engineer? I mean again ,,, come on, If you read a code for one specific software, you should be able to apply that to any software of your choice. It's really that simple. Plus I strongly believe that having the code not only helps you with the coding of it necessarily, but it helps you think logical through the problem statement and the solution provided by that assignment.   • This is a must have book
I advice you, if u r an undergrad, to buy this book after reading incropera(the conduction part), nellis and klein did a good job, but conduction it was more math than insights and incropera is quite the oposite, so after a first contact with conduction this book allow you to go further. Convection is well explained here, good insights, math is nicely exposed, i like lienhard's book, this one is better tho. Radiation i think incropera is more like a first course, this one is really good, but just like conduction i think you should have an introductory test(incropera is IMO the best book for that), after you get this intro you can move to nellis and klein easily. The authors did great, the book is awesome. Lets say bejan book is the best on convection, this book is not as deep as bejan but as good as, say the best book on conduction to be arpaci, this book gets closer to it. That said, if you are looking for a first course i suggest you to get incropera first, if not just buy this one! Thats the best choice for sure ... show more

  • The textbook material is fine...
The textbook material is fine, the book was damaged upon arrival because there was no protection put in the box with the book. I have no clue why they wouldn't put packaging with a book to stop it from bouncing around in a much larger box...

  • Great Reference
Must own if you work with heat transfer and thermodynamics. Examples on EES are very helpful and provide enough information to create your own calc sheet on a different software

The best Heat Transfer book you can find. It clearly explains the fundamentals of Conduction, Convection and Radiation. That being said, you need a very good professor to really explain the material to you if you want to clearly understand even the very basics of the material content. It's a very good heat transfer textbook. It's well written, readable, and very through. It can be pretty dense. It has a *lot* of good worked example problems and examples of how to use software packages like EES, Maple, and Matlab. The software examples are helpful especially because they show how to work all the way through tricky problems, not just details of how to use specific commands. ... show more

This is a really good text book for graduate level heat transfer. It uses modern software (EES, Maple, Matlab)and is one of the few books that use modern computer technology methods to solve complex problems. Most other text books are BC (before computer) books and (in my opinion) mostly obsolete in the 21st century. ... show more
