  • Best Aid so far
I have mild-moderate hearing loss with upper frequencies. I frequently need to ask people to repeat what they just said (I feel like so many people mumble when talking), the TV needs to be a little louder, and listening to a conversation in a group setting is difficult. Professional hearing aids are horrifically expensive and I didn't feel my hearing issue warranted spending thousands of dollars on a prescription solution. So, I tried over-the-counter hearing amplifiers. The first two amplifiers I tried were the kind that stick in your ear. They were very small, rechargeable, and with multiple amplification levels. Bottom line: they did not work well for me. Sometimes they would fall out of the ear, they were very visible, they did not improve my discrimination as they just made everything louder, and, worst of all, every now and then I'd get feedback resulting in an ear-splitting squeal that attracted the attention of everyone in the room. These amplifiers were just not getting used. With that history, I was reluctant to try yet another amplifier but, since this was an over the ear model, I decided to give it a try. I'm quite glad that I did. Now I have an amplifier that sits securely behind my ear and next to the arm of my eyeglasses. There is a thin, almost invisible, tube that leads to a earpiece that sits in my ear canal. The whole setup is much more stable and comfortable than the in-you-ear amplifiers I tried before. There are control buttons on the amplifier base sitting behind your ear. These were hard to use at first until I discovered the trick: use your thumb, pressing against your ear, to hold the base still against your head while you adjust the buttons with your index finger. Once you try it, this motion feels very natural. I can adjust the volume (I find that the lowest level setting is just fine), the mode, and the on/off. The documentation mentions the mode function but it doesn't define what the various modes do. I can hear slight differences between the modes and I assume these modes emphasize different frequencies. I just try various different modes until I hear something that works the best for me. I find that this amplifier seems to have multiple benefits over my prior devices. Sitting behind the ear, this amplifier is quite stable and I don't worry about it falling out. I have not experienced any feedback squeals which is a major benefit to me. The level 1 volume setting is sufficient so I no longer need to ask people to repeat themselves. I don't feel that people are just mumbling any more. Hence, I feel this amplifier definitely helps my hearing. I have just a couple of gripes. First, the USB socket that is part of the amplifier seems fragile and I've had difficulty getting the charging cord inserted without using force. I expect that this socket might be a future failure point but so far it has been fine. My second observation is about the case supplied with the amplifier. The amplifier fits nicely in the case, but there is no room for the charging cord, cleaning brush, and alternate earpieces. The case is quite large (2-3/4" square that is 1-3/8" thick) and mostly fills a shirt pocket. If the case had a spot for the charging cable, brush and earpieces then I'd be much happier. Or, if the case was much smaller to just hold the amplifier, that would be OK also. The drawbacks are pretty small (socket and case) in comparison to the benefits. I'm quite pleased with this acquisition. ... show more

  • (1) Single Lightweight & Effective Over-Ear Hearing Aid w/Multiple Silicone Earpiece Sizes
This is a really small, compact, lightweight and effective hearing aid. This goes on just one ear. The instructions state that it is important to charge for a full 12 hours as the first charge, so that's what I did and I've had no problems. The instructions are a bit complicated since you literally have to pop this in and then train your ear and brain how to understand the signals from this device. At first there will be some staticy air-type noises, but as you adjust the ear piece to fit your body and hearing level, you can tune the hearing aid to adjust to personal needs. This comes in a really cute hard-cased carry box (see photos), although the push-button close was a little stiff, so the elderly may have trouble at first getting this opened. The case included the hearing aid, a variety of silicane ear pieces (so you can choose the size that fits best) and a USB charging cord (but no a/c charging brick... a huge pet peeve! ;-p). There are a number of beeps and sounds as you are making adjustments that can be quite loud -- so I would ensure you turn the volume down at first use, and increase the volume as necessary to protect your hearing from those loud initial sounds. At this price-point (under $40 at the time of this review), this is a great starter hearing aid/sound amplifier for someone who is not quote ready to go the professional hearing aid route. Again, this is not a simple plug and play amplifier... this takes some time to adjust and tweak the settings, but I believe the result is worth the effort. Hope this helps! :-) ... show more

  • It is rechargeable.
Some seniors, as they get older, need hearing assistance because of moderate to severe hearing loss. This product is ideal for moderate hearing loss. It is easy to adjust to your ear and simple to adapt it for your exact hearing needs. A problem with other hearing aids was the loos of power. The best part this product is it is rechargeable. That's right! no more running out of power. just attached the charging cord that comes with the unit and plug it into a wall socket until fully charged. It does not take too long for a fully charged functioning hearing aid. I truly endorse this product. ... show more

  • Comfortable
The instrument is just the right size and holds nicely over the back of the ear. The plug fits very well in the ear canal. The material used to make the instrument is sturdy yet soft so it feels very comfortable while wearing it. It is easy to use and the very good at cancelling out unnecessary noise. There are helpful beeps to let you know when you are selecting a different mode. The volume tuner is very easy to access and use. Sounds come in very clearly. There are plenty of extra ear plug casings for when one wears out. Overall, this is a compact, travel-ready, comfortable, easy to use and accurately sound hearing aide. ... show more

  • Works pretty darn good!
Both my husband and myself have some hearing loss due to age. We wear prescribed hearing aids but we like to have a hearing aid like this on hand for working in the yard, or on sweaty days. We've tried a few hearing devices from Amazon like this, and both of us agree that this is among the best offered. The aid is very sturdy, and you can control the volume easily. The aid is easy to recharge and holds the charge for more than a day. It comes with a sturdy case and a cleaning tool. We recommend this aid to help with being able to hear better. Please note: the description uses the plural "aids" with an S at the end in a few spots. It sounds like you are getting 2 aids but this is only 1 aid. I wanted to clear up any confusion. You can adjust the aid so it will fit either ear and that is a great feature. It is a very good device! ... show more
