Make sure you do before ordering any. That said, I always wanted to try surf fishing here in Florida. Wally had some decent, brand name, twelve foot poles in stock. I was able to pick up this Big Surf Fishing Reel for half price which was its was its selling point for me. The advertising fooled me in thinking it was decent reel. I noticed to cheap quality of this reel when I mounted it on a fishing reel. This is what gave it away, the arm between the reel and rod seat is very weak. You are able to get movement between the reel and rod. Its a plastic arm! I bought this reel to mount on a cheap surf rod that I let the kids use so at the price I paid for the reel it makes everything good when the Rod & Reel gets abused. ... show more

I've used this reel on my Ugly stick 10 foot rod for the past week in the surf. This reel casts very well, and has increased by distance. Using 2 or 3 ounce weights, one can cfast well beyond the breakers. Hily recommend for this price.
