This umbrella's handle is wood. It apparently isn't properly treated so it cracks... which means not only splinters but cracks which pinch and the handle eventually falls off leading to metal exposed. My son grabbed his umbrella by the handle this morning and screamed... the crack had him pinched so bad that it took me a few minutes to get it off of him. He was crying. It was heartbreaking. The popped off when he'd grabbed it as well. I would suggest they start using plastic for their handles and refund for this product as cute as it was, it's not worth hurting a child. ... show more

Our toddler asked for an umbrella for her birthday and loves this. She opens it up inside and walks around saying it's raining. She uses it outside for actual rain, too, though we don't let her use it when it's very windy (more out of concern for her stability than the umbrella's). She doesn't always treat it very carefully, to be fair, but some of the tips have come out of place a few times. It's easy enough to pop them back on (so far), but it gives me a little pause about the durability. The shark design is cool, and overall we are happy with this purchase. ... show more

It's a great little umbrella, if it weren't for one small item, I'd give it 5 stars. Child is 4 and would love a button to open close the umbrella, but I can see where it might be an issue with kids and buttons. But to open and close it is a little tough for an independent child who wants to do it for themselves. Well they can open it but it's the last part of getting the click so it stays open. Especially when offers of help are rebuffed...perhaps this is a personal issue. But I'd still recommend this cute umbrella! ... show more

I'm afraid I bought this for one of my 7 year old twins. It's not sturdy enough since he just came in from a pretty windy/rainy evening and its completed messed up. It's actually beyond repair and my son is very upset as am I. I can't return it because he's not without guilt, he tried to shake it it to get back into shape and made it worse. We are soooo disappointed. The other twin has his shark one but I can't trust it in anything but drizzles. ... show more

I have a very active 5 year old son. I will readily admit that his is hard on everything he owns but this umbrella broke just he second time he used it. The mental supports on the inside are very thin and the material on my son's was thin enough that it tore away from the top. It's a super cute umbrella! My son has the matching rain jacket and boots which are both super amazing...he's been able to keep wearing the same jacket for a while but his feet are growing like crazy. We just keep getting the same boots in the next size. This umbrella just doesn't seem to be the same quality. ... show more

The cutest kids umbrella. Lightweight, my 14 month old could even hold it for short periods. Seems durable so far! Perfect for rainy pictures at the flower farm!

    • Bent, broke, holes, etc.
I give some leeway for the fact that this was played with fairly hard. But some metal supports bent almost at once. It is ridiculously simple to bend the back into shape by hand, which means the metal used here is a poor choice for a child's umbrella that is guaranteed to get abused. Then the ring of wire that holds the supports to the top of the umbrella broke. And multiple places got holes where the metal supports were rubbing against the fabric. ... show more

Got this for my 2 year old who loves being out in the rain, but hates being wet. Loved the dinosaur pattern. Seems a little brittle, so we'll see how long it lasts, but held up to the first half hour of overanxious little boy practicing opening and closing it "in case it started raining now", so I'm happy. :) ... show more
