Final assessment is that I regret buying this ballast box. It was packed pretty well inside a cardboard box lined with expanded foam (stryofoam). Sometime prior to me unpacking it at suffered from pretty rough handling. While I suspect it occurred somewhere during shipping, but it's possible that it happened prior to shipping. Purchasing heavy or bulky (or both) items is risky, likely due to shipping. One of the lift pin tabs was bent inward visibly, and a bottom corner was bent inward - it had clearly been dropped on that corner at some point. A few love taps with a small hammer returned everything to where it was intended. (Okay, it took more than a few, and they weren't just "love taps", and involved some other tools, too.) A rattle can of green paint completed the corrosion control but it's not painted "JD Green", so the paint doesn't match. I'll fix that later... maybe). Then, as far as product quality, I wasn't happy with the lock washer nut combination, and thought a new washer and/or nylon nut would be a good idea. I tried to find a couple of new lockwashers and nuts, but that's just not possible: I have no idea what hardware size and thread is on the pins included with this box, but it's not SAE (close to 7/8's, but thread pitch is wrong) and it's not metric (not very but closest to 20mm)... So, after an hour and a half in two good hardware stores and a farm supply store I left empty handed because I couldn't find washers or nuts to fit. I'm using the supplied hardware, backed with blue threadlocker... Then, I tried installing the bushing set I bought. Yay, they fit the supplied lift pins! Boo, I couldn't get get the stinking tension/roll pins through the holes in the lift pins! Investigation revealed that the roll pins were indeed fully compressed but only about 2/3'rds of the way through, and were never (never, ever) going to get correctly positioned. So, I beat the pins back out (yeah, not easy... 2 1/2 lb hammer, and my best manly swing to set them) and set off in search of a solution for this new issue. Fortunately, I found one: 10mm metric tension pins, and having to drill out the holes to a proper size. Now the lift pin bushings are done and I've finally got the box to a state where I can pick it up with the quick hitch. My experience getting this box ready to work was NOT one of just installing the pins and picking it up with the tractor: It's taken about 5 1/2 hours of frustrating busy-work getting it there. I'm going to assume it will be durable and will haul several hundred pound of ballast around the yard. After all, that's its sole role in life: Hold weight. It oughta work, right? UPDATE and SUMMARY If you're still with me, I wrote this review when I got it straightened and finally assembled so I could pick it up with the iMatch: But wait... I can't pick it up: It's NOT iMatch compatible. Note that the product description includes a PICTURE THAT SHOWS THE BOX ON A GREEN QUICK HITCH - it's reasonable to conclude it should be iMatch/quick hitch compatible. While iMatch is adjustable, there's not enough adjustment in the top hook on the iMatch to make it secure. It may work on other brands of quick hitch's, but not iMatch. For me, it's ONLY 3 point compatible. There is too much vertical distance between the lift pins and the top pin. See my attached photo (yeah, I have two ballast boxes... and a different, specific need for each one). The one on the left is another brand and fits the iMatch perfectly (but, it was more expensive). See the thickness of the material on it's lift-pin tab? Sturdy! Plus, it took me only about 15 minutes to get the box on the left side of this picture assembled and installed on the tractor after unpacking. The Hasopy is on the right. The lift pin tabs are way too low on the box. In order the make it compatible with other implements I have, It needs new lift-pin tabs welded on in the correct position so that it's iMatch compatible, and I'll have *hours* of my own effort and more money in it. the Good: It's cheap. the Meh: Generic green Material thickness and weld quality...If it doesn't collapse it should work as intended. the Bad: Hardware of non-standard and questionable quality... it's just cheap. Not iMatch compatible and, despite the photos in the description, probably not quick hitch compatible with any brand of QH. Value? Well, it wasn't a worthwhile purchase for me and it's a perfect example of me getting what I pay for: If other buyers are lucky, or enjoy tinkering and working on things, and have only a 3-point hitch it may be a good buy. If they value their time, and are looking for something sturdy and compatible with a "quick hitch" rather than a 3 point, it's clearly better to spend a few extra hours earning money and using it to buy a better box. ... show more

It does what it is meant to do, in that it is a steel box that generally seems quick hitch compatible (I had to adjust top link/hook height.) However, it had all the hardware loose into the cardboard packaging and was missing some parts. With one nut missing I wasn't able to secure one of the pins. The bolts they sent are an irregular metric size not available at ACE Hardware, Fastenal, or my local Kubota dealer. I wound up spending additional money just to get two matching pins that I could secure to the box. ... show more

The steel was strong and I added ten 60 pound bags of concrete, chainsaw holder and another tube for tools and some steel rods incase I need to add more weight.

Upon unboxing I has suspicions the lower lift tabs wouldn’t be suitable for long term use. I was correct; after a few times of use the two lower lift tabs welded to the sheet metal are starting to tear away. They really need to beef up this area. The box held 9-60lb bags of concrete, under the 800lb capacity they state in the add. My complaint being that if I’m seeing failure in short order with 540lbs of concrete, there’s no way it would handle 800lbs. Delivered early Feb 24’, currently late Mar 24’. I’d return it, but at 600lbs+, that ain’t happening. I’ll have to fab something. ... show more
