The programming for a fingerprint or custom code is a joke. Was able to program my fingerprint easily the first time, but then it wouldn't take a custom code to program. It says that you can have up to 20 unique fingerprints, but that is a total joke. The second print deletes the first one then it goes into a 100 second lock out. Overall this is a good small biometric safe. Feels hefty for size, mostly metal. When you open it, a hydraulic arm pops it open for you. The compartment is well-padded with plenty of space for 1 weapon well placed and some magazines or a couple weapons less well positioned for quick access. The fingerprint reader is good once programmed. You can program 20 “fingers” each with 3 readings, or the same finger multiple times each with 3 readings for more reliability (what I recommend). The code buttons light up when the first is pressed, are raised a bit, with a further slight raise of the numeral 1, which helps in the dark. You can only press them 1 at a time, I was hoping for the option of dual press for speed and more permutations. Setting the code and fingerprints is easy once you know how, which unfortunately the instructions are the opposite of helpful for. They say long press until you hear a beep and see the numbers flash to set either the code or a fingerprint. Actually, long press resets to factory settings. What you need to do is short press, then wait for beep and flashing numbers, then you can program either. For the code, you do another short press after you click your 4-6 numbers. For the fingerprint it is done automatically after reading the finger’s 3 samples. I like it better with the beeping off for use, but it helps to have it on when programming. Long press the 1 pad to toggle sound. Don’t loose your keys. Seriously. You’ll be locked out when the batteries die. The manual says it will warn you when they are getting low and you access it but I wouldn’t count on that since you may not access during that time. ... show more

HARDROCK Gun Safe: Before you set this safe up, get a new pack of alkaline batteries all the same brand. When it arrived, I was eager to try it out so put in alkaline batteries that all tested good, but were not all the same brand. I got it to work but it was not a smooth process. I did not get a low battery message, but I believe having different brands not all exactly at the same charge was the issue. So to be fair before reviewing it, I got a new set of batteries, all the same brand, and it worked like a charm! Reset went well on both the keypad and the fingerprint ID. I was able to set several different fingerprints. It was a night and day difference. The set-up worked exactly like the instructions said it would. Other features that are well thought out are the cable installation and the ability to screw it down to a surface internally. The controls are easy to see and find. The mute option is a plus. Overall, the case is heavy duty and solid, but well padded to protect your firearms. My only beef is I wish you could relock the case with the key. The latch resets electronically after you open it, but if your batteries are low the lid won't reset and you cannot not close the lid and have it lock. This is a very hefty gun safe and is clearly extremely high quality. The case is a very strong metal case that would be very difficult to tamper with. It has a solid rapid-release door with a hydraulic arm, so when the door latch is released, the door opens very quickly. It has some nice features, including an egg crate foam lining and a small LED to illuminate the interior. It is a very well designed safe, and for the safe alone, this gets a solid 5 stars. The reason I give this 4 stars overall instead of 5 is because the interface is somewhat glitchy. First, the instructions have the fingerprint and the keypad setup reversed, so it took me a while to realize that you short-press the Set button to set up the keypad and long-press to set up the fingerprint. But, even that aside, it reset itself multiple times, so I don't have a lot of confidence that it will not reset at some point in the future when I need it. Which means that I need to keep the key close by, which somewhat defeats the purpose of the biometric safe. I also did notice that when you take out the batteries, it resets all of the fingerprints and codes, resetting the code to the factory default, so when the batteries die, you have to go through the whole process again. If I felt confident that these features would not reset, I would have no problem giving this 5 stars. The fingerprint scanner is very easy to operate and does not seem to be easily tricked. The buttons are easy to use, so if the fingerprint scanner fails, the key pad will be a next option. Overall, I think it's a good safe and frankly, if you wanted to just use the keys on it anyway, this is an amazing safe for the cost. But, just know if you get this and intend to use the fingerprint scanner or keypad, it may be a little glitchy. ... show more
