Let me preface this review with stating I rarely write reviews — something has to be really good or bad for me to take the time to do so. While I can only speak to how it’s holding up a day after assembly, and not long term, I absolutely love it. BOOK DISPLAY — I forewent a sling back bookshelf because I read reviews that they didn’t display small board books well — these do, as the shelves are low enough for even small books to peak through. Additionally, I read the shelves of the sling back bookshelves tilt the books forward and aren’t straight — since the shelves here are compressed wood, the books remain upright for the most part. ASSEMBLY — I am less than 100 pounds and am not known for my construction prowess, and I consider assembly here pretty easy; I finished in about an hour. The parts were well labeled, and the instructions were clear. While I can see why some reviewers said they used a second person, it’s absolutely not necessary, and if I could do it myself, so could you. CAPACITY — I currently have over 50 books in there consisting of mainly board books, some very thin paperback kids books, and there is room for more. STRUCTURE — It’s sturdy, hefty, and didn’t tip when my 15 month old briefly tried to climb it (I stopped her immediately). LOOKS — Some parts of the paint aren’t as thoroughly white, but it’s not super noticeable. The surface can be knicked/scratched, but overall, it’s a good looking piece that we’re currently using to block our kiddo’s access to our fireplace. I am impressed. I didn’t have high hopes for this bookcase since it’s not a familiar brand to me. But the quality is great! It’s sturdy, easy to assemble, no sharp corners, no smell, and hold a ton of books! I added two 13” fabric bins to the bottom and the whole thing looks awesome. This bookshelf is exactly what you would expect for the price: decent, but far from perfect. The frame pieces don’t line up exactly (there’s space in between), it’s pressboard, and we had a peg go through one board entirely (thankfully it was covered up by one of the display layers), but frankly, I think my expectations were too high. According to my husband, I got exactly what I paid for. I will say, it’s exactly the right size for the space, it holds an impressive amount of books, and it’s good for a toddler to be able to see the book selection and pick out what they like (which is what I wanted). It’s also tall enough that the display shelves aren’t able to act as stairs, which other bookshelves tend to have and can be a safety risk. If this makes it through a few years, I’ll be satisfied. Be aware that there will be some flaws, but I mean, really, for kids furniture I’ll be shocked if this doesn’t have crayons all over it in a year or two. This does take some time to put together. But, once it’s up, it’s sturdy and holds our toddler’s books much better than his small fabric bookshelf. It’s also much easier for him to take books off and put it back on.

Easy to assemble. Seems sturdy. Holds many books of different levels of comprehension. We were just looking for a bookcase for our child with the aim of longevity of the product. This bookcase does the job and will last well. Goes well with child's Montessori style autonomy teaching. No complaints.

Love the idea! However, within just 6 weeks of use, two of the shelves collapsed. The concept is great, but the materials were not made to last. When I tried to put it back it caused additional stress to the item where the screws are about to poke through. We do have a lot of books, but I don’t think we overloaded the shelves. ... show more
