I read many reviews for many irons before purchasing this one. Found the reviews generally inconsistent, possibly because different people have different ironing needs, possibly due to them receiving irons with varying levels of quality assurance. Ended up making a list of all the features I wanted in an iron. As far as my needs: I've hated ironing, was always bad at it, never found old-school irons intuitive. I've used my Jiffy travel steamer (it's good), and dewrinkled clothes by spinning them in the dryer some, but am trying to reduce/avoid the dryer as it's expensive and not good for clothes, and some items can't easily be steamed. And I was curious if modern irons had improved. Since I've avoided ironing, I don't have lots of clothes requiring it, and I don't quilt or have other crafty needs, so my ideal iron is easy to use and doesn't have to be super heavy-duty. The first of this model I received emitted a strong chemical smell when I tried using it. I exchanged hoping Amazon had given me a dud, so this review is for the replacement. This one also smelled a bit on first use but I pressed on (haha) since new electric appliances sometimes do that. By the second use the smell was gone. Hamilton Beach does appear to have satisfied much of my wishlist: Steam/water: * no dripping * efficient steam; can steam lots without having to refill the water tank frequently * independent steam setting dial * water tank easy to fill from tap, translucent with a max fill line; does not require distilled water (there's a note to mix if your water is extremely hard) * burst of steam a bit underwhelming; it works but I prefer the push-button sprinkle feature Cord: * while ironing, cord stays out of the way all by itself! * retractable cord retracts easily (I hold the cord while pushing the button in bursts) Soleplate: * raised soleplate; no fingers hitting the bottom of the iron when it's sitting upright on the board * soleplate doesn't stick to items; pointy tip reaches small areas General: * digital display; no dial to move accidentally while ironing; beeps when ready * iron is not "tippy" and stays put when you sit it upright on the board to fiddle around with the clothes * iron is a good weight; not too heavy to shlep around but heavy enough to press readily What I don't know yet: * how long this iron will last (went ahead and purchased the extended warranty) * haven't tried the self-cleaning button * how the soleplate fares with spray starch, since I generally don't use it * how well vertical steaming works since I don't use it (since I have a steamer) I can say I got into this iron as I went along and found it easy to use. I just received my Durathon iron today and ironed this week's clothes with it. That included pressing pants, blocking sweaters, and pressing every kind of shirt. This iron passed on every level. Its engineers fixed every problem I ever had with an iron plus some problems I didn't know I had. It's quite heavy so that I don't press the clothes; the iron presses the clothes. The steam vents are perfectly situated and plentiful. To make it perfect, the iron also has a vent clean function. The nonstick plate didn't snag anything and had beautiful glide. It's easy to fill and to check the water level, and it's a push-button change of heat and a smooth slide to change the steam. Easy, easy. Coincidentally, I received a package while I was ironing, and the shipper had placed tape all over the decorative box. The burst of steam function worked perfectly with the iron held a couple of inches away to steam that tape right off. The retractable cord was easily long enough for my purposes and retracted smoothly although I did have to "feed" it a little at the end. The iron heated quickly, and the auto shut-off worked. Best of all, this iron is STEADY on the board. Its weight and the design of the bottom keep it from wobbling every time I put it down to reposition clothes. I never realized how much time I wasted steadying my iron after each pass. The Durathon iron didn't budge or wobble once, and I was finished quick time. I'm hoping it's as durable as it looks, because I will absolutely weep if this breaks. It's perfect and worth every dime I spent. Finally, the picture doesn't do it justice. I really like this iron.it seems durable, heats up nicely, is digital and has a retractable cord. It is a bit on the heavier side but that’s the only negative.

I was amazed how light this steam iron is, I used it just as regular iron without water and I was pleased with the results. Same goes for the steam ironing, it works just fine. Satisfied with the purchase! And it wasn't even expensive!

I bought this iron for my craft needs. I received it on 9/16/2023, the box was in very poor shape. I opened it to see if there was any damage. No damage was seen, except it looked used. I then filled the iron with the recommended instructions. I then turned it on. All was good. I used it on a project I have been working on, it did wonders. I was very happy. When I woke up this morning (9/17) I discovered my work area was soaked. The iron leak all the water it had in it. Could not find where it leaked from. I just have a soaked work area. My iron of 6 years finally went out on me, so I went on the hunt for a replacement. Seems like none of the stores carry a decent iron anymore. I purchased an iron from target and returned it due to feeling like my lungs were going to collapse due to the horrible fumes. After returning that iron I was back to square one so I came to Amazon and started searching. This took me a few days before making a selection because, a lot of reviews on the other irons turned me off. Finally I came across this one after my third night of searching, the reviews were great so I ordered it. I believe the product was used based on how it came, and a couple of scuffs. Long as it doesn’t affect functionality I don’t mind. Speaking of functionality I love how simple it is to use, it heats up quickly and seems to be a great replacement upgrade to my old iron. I just hope this stands up to the test of times like my old one did. In addition to being easy to use, it’s light weight, easily glides across the clothes, I love the retractable cord, so it’s not getting in a tangled mess.
