  • Play for the Feels!
The product itself works perfectly as it should, no problems there! As usual, the voices are in Japanese (and sound great) with subtitles in English. Also worth mentioning is that the cover on the case is actually reversible (and beautiful). As for the gameplay... I haven't finished all the routes yet, (I'm playing the original characters' routes last, since I've read them before) but the ones that I have finished are GREAT!!! While this game is pretty short, I think it makes up for it in the 'feels' department. I've already shed a lot of tears, both sad and happy. Also, if you like puns... the trophy names are absolutely spot-on, it kills me every time I get one, lol! ... show more

So glad to see a physical copy of this directly from Amazon! Brand new and sealed! I'm new to otome visual novels and know exactly what I'm getting myself into, I can't wait! I love cheesy girly lovey dovey sappy anime shows and all the bachelors in this VN look gorgeous *_*

  • Split storyline leads to an odd tone in the second game
I have played all English releases of the Hakuouki series save the PS2 version. They are all the same storyline, presented differently. This time around, the story was split into two games: Kyoto Winds, which covers the first half of the story, and this game, which covers the second. I purchased this game for the third/fourth time because this version offers 6 new storylines to pursue. Obviously I enjoy the series, or I would not have bought it yet again, but splitting the game into two halves just didn't work for me. First, the general stuff. Anyone buying this game should have purchased/played Kyoto Winds so I will be getting a little spoilery here. Edo Blossoms focuses on individual romantic arcs and eventual "boss fights" with each path's main villain. By splitting the story where it does, the Fury stuff in Edo Blossoms feels like a major distraction whenever it comes up rather than an important plot point. Giving blood to each man four times is repetitive and a lot less sexy than the game designers think. There was also no reason all of the new bachelors needed to become Furies. I found it particularly out of place in Nagakura's and Yamazaki's storylines. Speaking of Nagakura's route, it is a hot mess even without the Fury parts. It goes nowhere, and it feels like the writer only remembered at the last minute that Chizuru and Nagakura were supposed to be falling in love. Very disappointing for a path many fans have been waiting for since the games series began. Another issue I had was that the non-simultaneous release meant I finished every path in Kyoto Winds long before I started the second half of each path in Edo Blossoms. Playing this way made it hard to remember specific plot points for each path, and I do not recommend it. I would have preferred it if the games were split by bachelor (6 in each game), with each man's complete path contained in one game. For future players, I recommend doing each route separately, jumping between games when necessary. On the positive side, I liked Yamazaki's, Sanan's, and Sakamoto's routes. I hated Iba's story in Kyoto Winds, but it improved a lot in Edo Blossoms. The older routes did a good job incorporating the new characters. Hijikata's route felt a lot less endless than it has in the past. Harada remains my favorite. ... show more

I love the Hakuoki series and having more of my favorite game coming back to life is awesome. We have a few new faces to romance and while I'm still working on it I'm enjoying the video game. The graphics are very nice on the vita and it's still a pretty game when I first started playing the series.
