  • Very Tight for a Big / Tall Guy... but...
Size: X-Large Color: Black
If you're a big guy like me (6' 9" & 240 lbs), you'll find the biggest size of this armor is still on the tight side. I wrestled between this & about 4 other armors like it. I don't have any particular reason why I chose this one, but if you're a big or tall guy like me, & want to make this type of armor work for you (for OR or summer-road rides), then this review is for you. (1) Don't put your hand / thumb through the end of the sleeves. Just wear it like a normal "shirt". This'll allow more movement / flexibility in the armor & make it more comfortable for you. Besides... even for a tall guy like me, when I push my hands all the way through, the part that would normally be wrapped around your hands acts like a sleeve-end, & butts up right next to your gloves. (check the pic that has the red arrow to see what I'm describing here) (2) Loosen all of the straps, but leave enough tension to keep them from unbuckling. This took a bit of finagling, but I finally found a combo that worked for me. You'll have to tinker with this too, but if I can do it, so can you. (3) Yes, the forearm pads want to ride on "top" of your arm (in a weird position), but you can twist the pads to the under-side of your elbow (where they're supposed to be; see the pics), & tighten ONE of the 2 straps to keep it in place. Why only 1? Because you'll find that if you tighten them both, it'll likely be too tight for your arm, & ALSO because those plastic tighteners will "squish" between your upper & lower arms, anytime you fold your arms, which is very uncomfortable. (4) Wear this armor UNDER your shirt. Yeah... I've found that it is FAR less restrictive (& a LOT more comfortable) being right against my skin. I can then just choose whatever shirt I want to wear over it. (5) Wear the waist belt high. Ya don't really have a choice with this one. I'm an athletic guy, but the belt just doesn't want to stay around my waist; I suppose b/c of way I ride, b/c of my height, or both. So, instead of fighting to keep it down, I just wrap it around my upper waist, so it doesn't start riding up on its own & become uncomfortable. Given the lack of armors like this for guys my size, I decided to do what I had to so that it'd work. (1) Because I wanted something other than my normal riding jacket so I could ride cooler (since I'm warm-natured anyway)... & (2) Because I wanted this type of armor for the option of wearing something other than my normal riding jacket (if it's being cleaned or if I just want to wear regular clothes). Whatever your reasons are for wanting this armor, I hope this review will help a big & tall guy find a way to make this work for them. Happy trails! ... show more

  • Good value for price. Comfortable, stayed in place when adjusted. Compared to Dainese...
Size: X-Large Color: Black
I have been looking for a second set of body armor to have when I ride back to back days. Also something to have in the event that my current armor breaks. I have a set (jacket & Bibs) of Dainese armor that I have had for over 12 years. I was looking at the EVS G6 jacket as a addition. Fell short on cash and debated long and hard about saving up for the G6 or just trying one of the lower priced point jackets. I can say that I am glad I did. It came in just a plastic bag. First impression was it was very light weight. I even wondered if the box had the jacket inside. It did. Upon opening it I noticed that almost every strap was either not adjusted at all or even attached to the buckle. No big deal as that made me look it over real good. And look it over I did. Size matters: I am 5'11" and weight in at 245 pounds with a 45" chest and wear 38/40 pants. I ordered the XXXL and it fit nice. Snug enough but not too snug. I should mention this is for mountain biking use not motorcycles. I oiled the front zipper with some stanchion lube and worked it up and down several times. It improved the movement of the zipper. I would recommend regular lubrication of the zipper as sweat and the sale from your sweat is very hard on zippers. Once the straps were in place and cinched in they did not move. Is it fair to compare this product side by side to something costing considerably more? As it is a clone I say it is fair to compare. I find the back (spine) protector was lacking good padding against the body, however, with a thin wicking base layer on it was not uncomfortable. I also did not see the articulation as much as I do with my other armor. It has joints, however, they did not move as much as I would have liked. The shoulder and arm pads stayed in place and provided me with a feeling that I would have some protection in the event of a crash. I have long arms so I found it more comfortable to wear the sleeve of each arm without hooking my thumb into the loop at the end. That is a feature that I do not have on the Dianese armor. I will let the pictures help tell the story. I prefer a wider kidney belt. To be fair it is about the same width on the Dianese. Also, unlike the EVS G6 armor, you can not put a water bladder in the spine protector. I k new this when buying it - just wanted to mention since I am going to be getting a G6 at some point. What about the other , similar versions, of this jacket? I can only speak about this model. Final thoughts: I am glad I went ahead and spent the money now to try out this piece. I think for what you pay for you get a decent product. I did not rate a full five stars as it could be better. Perhaps future models will come with some improvements. Thicker padding, stringer webbing and a better moving spine with a larger kidney belt. I would buy again. It is worth having as a backup or , as I used yesterday for all day, a primary if this is your price point. Will it last as long as the Dianese? Only time will tell. Good luck with your decision. ... show more
