The only thing I would change is the handle, other than that it sounds and looks great. The finish is very well polished and the fastening points are nicely done. I also like the picks that are included they are nicely design and sturdy. This instrument and some of its variations is native to the Dominican culture and music. I love the percussion it adds to Merengue and Bachata a must if you want to dabble in these genres along with salsa, cha-cha and so forth. Great value and build for the price. The media could not be loaded. Great quality! We recommend this Guira (guiro) Dominicana because it is well built with good authentic design. For those who've never seen or heard one of these it is a unique handheld instrument providing impressive latin percussion sound either with the two scrapers included or by itself. You can shake it in different directions and at different beats/tempos depending on music you're accompanying or come up with your own tunes. We like the look - shininess, good weight, quality of the sound of the metal balls inside rolling and making contact against the stainless steel tube; you can slow it down or speed it up to your liking. The smooth edges of the stainless steel tube and great quality construction are noticeable. Love the corrugated, bevelled sides and the sound is reminiscent of rain, a rattlesnake and a diggery-do (sp?) combination. The handle is comfortable, size is perfect and even children could feel OK handling this instrument. We chose it for its uniqueness and variety of sound. I can say already this is a lot of fun. We have been adding to our collection of handheld instruments for when we have gatherings. Music always livens things up and is a part of our culture. I think it's perfect for relaxing if you're feeling a little stressed, grab it shake it and decompress from your workday! Love this :) ... show more

I got this for my husband. He's a drummer and collects all sorts of percussion instruments. He had a blast playing around with this and finding ways to incorporate it into his music. It's much bigger in person than it looks in the photo. It makes a unique sound, which is hard to explain in words. Very glad I got this!
