I like the system, so far, for its controls on my child’s web and app activity. There is a learning curve to understand the difference between all the URL’s that pop up to properly control what you want. App controls are pretty simple, but I didn’t see where to add apps to the list the company provides. There are some games and music sites that get through, so I would allow for patience until you figure out most of what distracts. I did have the first unit go bad, but it fell during the short warranty window, so it was replaced. It did take longer than expected, but communication was descent and the unit came through. WiFi coverage is good within the room it’s in, repeaters are likely needed for full home. 4 stars are for my personal purchase purpose, not necessarily all the router aspects. This router makes policing my kid’s internet usage so much easier. Even my savvy teen cant get past the router rules. My tips: Set up a user account for every family member. Add another one for school devices and another for guest Set the “new devices” to connect to guest with a safety level of toddler or elementary school. Why? Because your savvy teen can set their personal devices to private wifi and the Gryphon router wont recognize them. If your new devices is set to guest with a highly restrictive age limit, your teen will give up and revert back to their own user profile. Also set the wifi user profiles to “no VPN” This has been the very best tool in our home to feel fairly confident that my kids are protected from themselves and from internet sites geared for adults and/or to lure young users. There were some set up issues at first, because this router has so many sophisticated features. I’m beyond impressed and satisfied with this purchase. In addition, there are time out controls for homework and bedtime, as well as the ability to set a daily time limit for device usage and even some apps. If you are struggling with wanting your kids to be able to use the internet safely, this router will help you incorporate a high level of safety in your home. ... show more

I have tried other routers with built in parental controls. They are clunky and not geared for the typical end user. They block basic terms and websites but everything else you have to manually input yourself causing you to miss alot of stuff, not Gryphon. This unit surprised the heck out of me. Everything i had already blocked on my old router manually was already blocked right out of the box on the Gryphon! All the common kid/teen apps are on there to block or allow, age groups, vpn blocking, device priority, etc...i could keep going and going. I am an IT manager and I recommend this for anyone from someone who can barely print all the way up. I stream videos on every TV in my house and game online and it keeps up. I love being able to turn off individual devices. Sometimes the devices struggled to reconnect but it seems to be better after restarting the router and the app. Customer service is difficult to get in touch with. The chat isn’t any faster than a phone call. I submitted a form to request a call back from an agent and received that call back about 12 hours later. ... show more

The Gryphon router makes it so easy to set reasonable boundaries and guardrails on online content in your home (and your devices when outside your home too, if you choose). I used a Circle router before and while it was very helpful, it also had problems from time to time and customer service was lacking. However, Gryphon customer service has been absolutely amazing! I got the router because my nighthawk would always lock me out. I switched to gryphon and love how easy it is to use. From setup to app control, it’s all been really smooth. It also looks nice in the living room. I can easily cut off internet to devices when I want. It tells me which device is getting malware hits but blocks it at the same time.
