  • Great for an Electric Shovel
This is great for what it is. It's a small, inexpensive, easily maneuverable tool that's maybe a step up from an electric snow shovel. As I get a little older, I'm unwilling to strain my back the way I used to, but I haven't been sure about investing so much in a gas snow blower yet. This was a great option to try out the process of one without breaking the bank. It's easy to put together and worked as soon as I started it up. I like how light-ish weight it is so I can pick it up and get it around our small garage (not much storage space). The shovel-type lip on the bottom helps get down to the pavement. It helps me clear my 4-car driveway in about 45 minutes. But not all of the snow is shot at a distance. Maybe half of it ends up about 10 feet from you which isn't great if you plan to shovel that section too. It doesn't take packed and heavy snow too well. When you get to the packed parts, it kind of bogs down the machinery. It also can't shoot above bushes if you're right next to them. These were things I could get over for a season while I work out whether I want to invest in heavy duty machinery. I may do that and get a smaller electric snow shovel to get in between the outdoor furniture on the back deck. This is a little too big to get in between all the chairs and the pergola easily. ... show more

  • No Sore Back
Overall I really like the electric snow shovel. My initial test was on four to five inches of snow. My driveway is long and relatively steep. It probably took about thirty to forty-five minutes to finish the job. Assembly was an easy three step process and you only need an adjustable wrench (socket wrench would work, too) the rest of the connections are with wing nuts that tighten by hand -- total time fifteen minutes. Only problem I had with the instructions related to the middle handle because the text did not explain that the hole in the cross bar needs to be on the same side as the directional lever. It would be easy to put it on the wrong way and discover the error in the next step, wasting time and effort. Other than a problem the extension cord loop disengaging from the plug on the shovel, operation was generally good. The unit does seem to be somewhat out of balance causing the user to lean forward while pushing it. This action can make any small bump stop the shovel from moving, and pushing harder does no good. But, compensating for this design flaw after a bit of use became automatic. I found the discharge directional control lever could be turned all the way to the right or left to direct the snow ejection. Noise wasn’t too obnoxious but I wouldn’t use it before the neighbors are awake, but I didn’t feel the need for hearing protection. Power remained consistent throughout the driveway clearance. But, if you push too fast the shovel slows down and the snow isn’t thrown as far. Probably the right speed is about half a normal walking pace. Results are I cleared the driveway without hurting my back (a big plus) in better time than if I’d used a manual shovel. The product is all plastic but still seems to be well constructed, but only time will tell. I will post an update if after further use I encounter any problems, but for now I am very pleased with the performance. ... show more

  • A wonderful helper!
I bought this snow thrower to deal with the snow in a steep 80' L-shaped driveway that opens up to 30' at one end. I've been looking to get an electric snow remover - gas powered ones are out of the question for me since I am petite and elderly. After some deliberation I chose GreenWorks 26022 because of its size (only 16") and weight (vacuum cleaner level), the features, and the user reviews (weighing both the + and the -). From the very beginning, the machine did not disappoint. Four storms later (some with heavy snow up to 12"), I am totally impressed and feel very lucky that I found this little giant. During the 1st storm we had 8" of packed powder snow. I found out that this little machine can handle much more than 6" if you 'slice' the snow instead of cutting close to 16" widths as you make each run. I use the same technique when I hand shovel. Using this technique and by tilting the machine up to facilitate the throwing and get to a clean end, it works very well. It is true that I didn't save a lot of time doing it using the machine but it is also true that I didn't have to lift any snow!! This 2nd point is important when you have a hill to deal with, a wide opening to clear and you are sick. The 2nd time, we had 5" of very heavy snow. This little machine amazed me again and saved my back literally. I cleared the entire drive way without lifting any snow. This is too wonderful!! The latest experience which prompted me to write this review, was the mess from Pax which we finished clearing today. We had 12" of snow the 1st day. I decided to remove the snow in 2 sittings. That 1st batch of snow is exactly what this little machine was made for - right amount (6") and powdery but not totally packed. It was really fun removing the snow, I must say. As I worked on the driveway, more snow fell. So, by the time I got to the sidewalk we had about 12" of snow. That's a hard situation to 'slice', so I did the tilt technique and cleared out the entire sidewalk that way. It took a while but no lifting! This morning, we had 3" of mostly ice. So I tried to get my little machine to work on it. I helped it along with an ice shovel. Together, it worked very well. I was so amazed. So, the next job is the snow bank from the Township plow. Well, this machine cut through it all - slush, water, snow, ice - using the 'slicing' technique and be a little patience, all gets cleared without lifting any snow. I cannot be happier. The machine came well-packed - the direction controller was packed apart from the rest of the machine - which I thought was smart - but the instruction booklet did not explain this fact and explain how to deal with it - so "a picture is better than 100 words" comes in handy here. As another reviewer stated, the screws for the wing nuts that clamp the handle and the machine together is rather short and easy to lose. I have one somewhere in my lawn also. This happened before I cleared out Pax, so I had no way to go a hardware store. I improvised and got the machine together enough that it allowed me to work with the icy 3" and the town snow dump today. So, I will always check the tightness of those screws before I do my jobs now. So, overall, yes, I am very happy with my new helper and I would recommend this petite snow remover to anyone who is small in stature, has a small frame, and/or is elderly. ... show more
