Nice flip phone for elderly. It sounds loud and clear for the elderly to hear you when you talk to them and easy to adjust volume. The ringer also you can set it up the loudest so they can hear it and choose the best ringtone. I transfered their old number to the jitterbug cellphone and did it online it's easy just follow the steps provided in the box. I set it up around 2:00 pm in the afternoon and around 6:00 am the next morning it rang and then the service started working after that. It won't work right away it will take close to a whole day for it to receive calls and texts , so if you see the calls going straight to voicemail it's not fully registered yet to lively, so don't thing it's not working it's part of the process and it will work after a full day has past and in the morning it will be fully activated ready to use and test it out. ... show more

I got this phone for an older gentleman that doesn't know much about how to run a phone. I think the phone is overall great. But when I was setting it up for him, it was difficult. I was doing it online to save the $5. (They tell you, you can save 5$ if u do it online) well, it didn't work so it told me I needed to call customer service. That was also a pain and it didn't go very smoothly. I couldn't imagine a older person trying to set this up by themselves. I'm 27, if that means anything. Total redesign - old EASY functionality gone. My dad has had a Jitterbug phone for years. He uses it to make PHONE CALLS. It is a flip phone!!! Some brilliant person decided this phone needed bells and whistles. After researching phones, we purchased the Jitterbug Flip Phone for my dad about 6-7 yrs ago. It had big buttons easy to see and dial. It was loud, call volume and ringtone. Super easy to use - extremely intuitive. Perfect for a senior - arthritis, neuropathy and hearing loss. (SENIORS this was their target market) NEW JITTERBUG Smaller buttons, but slightly raised. Volume seems ok so far. That for the most part is primarily what has stayed the same. I was assured the phone has speed dial it does not, Set-up info is in the manual but not a function the phone supports. The contact list is in alphabetical order- an improvement for some. All of the functionality of the original jitterbug is gone. Well, lots of info about texting from the phone; however, you are still texting from a flip phone. Connect to WIFI -you now have the ability to play "wack-a-mole". And the final waste of time and space ALEXA. Great for a home - not a flip phone. By the time you finish pairing Alexa with Lively and use the phrase "Alexa ask Lively too..." She can't text of make calls. Maybe I can use the combo of Alexa/Bluetooth for hands free calling while. driving. Looked at many combos - the answer is NO. This phone was fully charged 4 hrs ago - I have not made a call or done anything except scroll thru screens and the battery is at 91%. I had to put my glasses on to read that. And the promised coverage is 3 bars. I hope one of the perks they added is wifi calling. To wrap it up, I now have to teach my 80 yr old dad how to use this foolish phone so he can call the 7 people in his old "speed dial" list. Going shopping for a new phone. As for Lively - they are not GreatCall. The direct questions I asked where either incorrect or I was sent on a wild goose chase for an answer.     • Alexa works but is hard to set up, calling is awkward

We got this for my 89 year old father in law because a smartphone is way too error prone for him. Even if he were to use Siri to dial, if he touched the screen he would be in trouble. He has AMD so he only has peripheral vision and can’t see well enough to work through any menus or a contact list, even with the large font on this phone. He flips the phone open to answer, puts it to his ear, and flips it closed to hang up. He knows how to do that, and it is reliable that way! Hidden in the accessibility settings in the phone is a handy one to lock the exterior buttons so he can’t accidentally turn the ringer volume down. We also liked that this has Alexa capability so he might be able to use dial by voice on top of the flip phone practicality. Unfortunately Amazon and Lively aren’t friendly enough to have a seamless integration of Alexa with the phone. It’s hard to set up and the results leave something to be desired. First you have to link your Lively and Amazon accounts which is understandable, but then you have to add the Lively ‘skill’ to Alexa on this device. The big disappointment is that even after jumping through the hoops to successfully set it up you can’t say, “Alexa, call Tommy.” You have to say, “Alexa, ask Lively to call Tommy.” My father in law is having the darnedest time remembering that or even pronouncing the new words for him “Alexa”, “ask”, and “Lively.” You can’t deviate, you have to nail it! Apparently he never uses the word ask it’s always tell, and Alexa was an obscure name in 1945 but Alexis was fairly popular! If we could get it to call me when he says, “Alexis, call Tommy” or even, “Alexis, tell your buddy to call Tommy” that would be great. ... show more
