the popcorn tastes great; hardly any unpopped kernels. only issue is the packaging. the way they wedged the seasoned salt in between the oil and popcorn makes it hard to pour the ingredients as instructed by the popcorn machine manufacturer. I’ve found I have to cut the end off ONLY for the oil, squeeze the oil out, cut off the end for the popcorn, pour it out, and finally cut off the end for the salt. kind of a nuisance, but you get used to it. opening the entire package at once is too hard to get everything in to the kettle cleanly. again, great product, not-so-great packaging. I bought the 4oz packs to go along with my 4oz Maxi Matic Elite 450 theater style popper. While waiting for the Great Northern packs to arrive I used some coconut oil from my local grocery store, Orville, pop secret and some butter flavored seasoning. My popcorn was chewy, full of tough tongue clinging hulls and low yield. Box arrived in great condition. No leaking packs. Packs are made of strong durable plastic that will withstand rough shipping. Packs are a little bigger than what the picture portrays. Generous portions of ingredients. Well worth the money. I popped the Great Northern tonight. 3 batches filled half of my 4oz popper. It was great! Tasted just like movie theater popcorn. Light, fluffy and full of flavor. As some have stated don't use all the season pack just use half as it will make your popcorn too salty. It did provide a higher yield than Orville or Pop Secret but there was a few old maids too but not as many as Orville and especially Pop Secret produced. Orville and Pop Secret are just way too tough and chewy for theater popcorn, better used for kettle corn. I suspect Orville and Pop Secret are genetically modified because of their mushroom size. As with anything genetically modified their size is enormous but they are tasteless. Like chewing cardboard with knife like hulls. I don't know what kind of corn Great Northern uses but it is a excellent grade and quality of corn that is more natural than Orville and Pop Secret. Overall, I liked the coconut oil from my grocery store better than the orange colored coconut oil in the Great Northern pack. It had more flavor and aroma than Great Northern. However, having everything already pre-measured is very fast and convenient. For this reason alone I will order more Great Northern. Pound for pound, so to speak you get more popped popcorn out of these packs than you will with the same measured amounts of Orville and Pop Secret. As stated, I was very pleased with the high yield from these packs especially with a family of 5. If you have a theater style popper you should definitely consider ordering some Great Northern packs. We’ve been buying these for several years got parties and Church events. These are easy no hassle packages. I suggest having some paper towels nearby and wearing rubber gloves because the oil will get on your hands. I'm probably one of the most critical when it comes to replicating the movie theater experience at home. You're looking at a guy whom has a motorized movie screen, projector, sound system, actual 4 head soda fountain and candy display. So, matching the popcorn was a large task. Initially I was stuck with buying popcorn and peanut oil. Ya, it tasted good but no where near movie theater popcorn. Then, I found Snappy Snappack's and Great Northern. Greath Nothern was my first purchase. I challenge you to read all the reviews on here. I can assure you that those whom say the popcorn is too salty are correct. The salt comes in a powder form mixed in with the seeds. If you're careful you can separate the two with some effort. Personally, I've gotten used to the salt but I can tell you that it is very salty. The freshness wasn't a factor. I have no doubt that others have gotten less than fresh popcorn. Here's a warning: when your package arrives, BE CAREFUL. Don't just slice into it to open the box. The people from amazon literally grab about 20 of the packets and drop them into a box. I was at a city event where they were giving away free popcorn and snapped a picture of the popcorn they were using. Snappy SnapPack: [...] This was not overly salted and tasted more like theater popcorn than great northern I think but they're both a toss up... it's super close. If you're unsure how big your kettle is... go by this: the 2.5oz is only good for one person. The 2.5oz kettles are the ones you see like this:[...] You've seen them at places when you're out and about. So in retrospect I should have gotten the 4.5oz one. I have one of those small nostalgia popcorn cards. 2.5oz will fill up a large popcorn bucket about halfway. Another thing I like about this pre-packed popcorn is that it pretty much pops all the seeds. When I used to pop popcorn from walmart popcorn and peanut oil it'd only pop about 50% of the seeds... the remaining seeds would fly out of the popper. There are some on here that talk about the buttery/oily mixture not looking fresh. It does come as a semi-solid. You don't need to kneed it, however. Set up the large popcorn popper for Halloween. Was the star of the neighborhood. Smelled like a movie theatre. Tested great. Only have four packs left and served over 300 small bags of popcorn. I fear next year we will be over run! Buy this for your movie night.
