  • Crampon flat after 3 weeks
Color: Gold Size: 30" (180 - 250 lbs)
Just 3 weeks into the snowshoe season the crampon, which gives traction on icy surfaces, has completely flattened out rendering these showshoes completely useless. These snowshoes are sold on Amazon under a number of different brand names but having ordered two different brands we've found them to be identical. ... show more

  • Broke on first use
We bought these as an affordable way to see whether we enjoyed snowshoeing. Unfortunately, the heel strap broke within a half mile the first time we used them, so that plan didn't work out. We are outside of the return window, but these are supposed to have a one year warranty. Unfortunately, we can't find a way to actually redeem the warranty or contact the seller, so I guess we just out of luck. Don't buy from this company. ... show more

  • Impossible to adjust bindings
Color: Blue Size: 14" (30 - 70 lbs)
The bindings were impossible to use, I couldn’t adjust them because the strap wouldn’t move through the plastic binding lock. Had to return before use.

  • Excellent product at a very good price
Excellent material and workmanship. We particularly like the robust quality of the material which allows the “polainas” to stay up without collapsing while doing hard work or hiking. The only issue may be the plastic straps that are placed under the soles which may not endure over time. This is not a big issue as we could easily replace it if need with leather or similarly strong material. So far so good though. ... show more

  • Trouble with buckles
Color: Gold Size: 25" (120 - 180 lbs)
I got these for Christmas and by the time we got snow I was outside the 30 day warrenty. There does not seem to be anyway to contact the company. I have used them 4 times and I struggle with the buckles staying latched. I have to constantly stop and tighten them. Makes going any distance difficult and reduces the pleasure of the experience. ... show more

  • Beware of the straps
Color: Blue Size: 25" (120 - 180 lbs)
If you don’t feed the straps in the right way when you put them on, you were NEVER get them loose. There are many of these types of snowshoes, pick another kind.

  • Seem OK, gaiters are defective
Color: Blue Size: 27" (160 - 235 lbs)
Haven't tried them in the snow but they seem like they'll be fine - seem sturdy, decent polymer platform. 3 comments I can make before trying outdoors: 1. The ratchet could use a little more depth on the "tongue" that it is pulling through to tighten the boots onto the snowshoes ... it seems you have to tug on the end of the tongue that is past the ratchet point in order to get it to continue feeding until adequately tight. If the grooves that it is grasping onto were a little deeper it would probably self-feed more easily. Not a deal breaker. The release mechanism is very good. 2. The gaiters are largely a "throw-in" at this price so I didn't expect too much in the way of durability or water resistance. However, Q/A slip-up - one gaiter has 2 buckles sewn on and the other correctly done one has a single buckle and the strap to pass thru it ... unless I can find some appropriate webbing and jimmy something up, the 2 buckle leg will never be of use. 3. The only documentation in the box was a single index card showing available sizes and a small warranty paragraph that noted that ALPS stands by the snowshoes and bindings. I contacted ALPS about the gaiters and was told that that company does not and has never made snowshoes. So, to whom does that ALPS name on the card refer? No phone number, email or "in case of warranty contact XXX" notice. I'll buy some decent gaiters and at least try the snowshoes outdoors - I suspect I'll keep them as the return/reorder/recheck hassle isn't worthwhile for just the gaiters issue. PS: The "please rate this product" email from Amazon references the purchase as being from G & F International E-Commerce ... looks to be a consolidator that supplies Amazon rather than an actual manufacturer. So it seems the warranty may effectively just be the return period to Amazon ... I'm not optimistic about finding the actual manufacturer in case of a later developing product issue. I'll upgrade the Overall and Durability ratings if warranted after I've had a chance to use them outdoors. ... show more

  • Good Starter Snowshoes
Color: Gold Size: 25" (120 - 180 lbs)
My first pairs of snowshoes to try out. They seem to do the job on a simple weekend hike in the snow. I would go for higher quality items if you plan to do this regularly or hike in more technical challenging environments. The straps are noticeably flimsy compared to straps on snowboard bindings. I am not sure how they will hold up with regular use. The trekking poles are heavier than the $20 trekking poles. ... show more
