First and foremost, this tool chest is not really for an application that a mechanic would need. This tool chest is small and suitable for home use. I was able to fit all my tools in it, along with 2 drills, a sander, and a variety of wrenches, screwdrivers, drill bits, and such. The shipment was delayed for 3 days. Given the reviews on other sites, breakage/damage was a concern when the day of arrival was switched. Upon receipt, this item was packaged very well. There was absolutely no damage to any part of it. Inside there were corners around the unit, covered in cellophane, and zero scratches or dents. The tool chest is easy to assemble. Everything went together very well. The instructions are good, but they do not specify the screws and which goes where. The best thing to do is start the screws where they appear to belong and it becomes clear. The only difficulty was screwing the two rear screws under the top drawer assembly to the middle compartment. The location of the screws is very difficult to visualize and may take a few minutes to get the 2 screws going. Overall I give the cabinet a 5 rating. It is thin, but very well made and sturdy. The casters are easy to steer and there is plenty of space for all hand tools typically used around the house. I attached a power strip behind the unit, this way I can roll it with a full electronics connection panel, with 2 USB ports. I have all my car cleaning tools, including a polisher, so having the 120 VAC power strip comes in handy. The instructions when it comes to labeling the screws and the location where they go need improvement, but overall I am very pleased with this tool chest. The brand of this particular chest is Ironman. I have seen the same tool chest under other brands, however, given the packaging, zero damage, and versatility of the chest, I would recommend this very same brand. Some of the reviews of the similar tool chest are poor and the overall experience for most are bad, and most appeared to have been returned due to damage. 12/10/20 UPDATE Im changing this review to a zero. Last night I needed to get a screwdriver, none of the drawers would open. The lock on this unit is for the top component ONLY. So the lock does NOT lock any of the drawers. So, blaming the lock is as good as blaming the virus for poor service. The problem is that this manufacturer wants to have the soft closing drawers, but want to do ao with cheaper hardware, hence the failure. I would not recommend buying this. Only way to fix it is removing the riveted hardware. Given the cost and labor of doing that, the rating is a zero. Total waste of money. Dissapointing to say the least. One good day, them kaput. Jan 18 2021 Update: You live & learn. Back to 5 stars with regards to functionality. This tool Box has a hidden latch on the top compartment that keeps the drawers from opening. It is not part the locking mechanism that is on the front of the unit. Rather it is apparently located on the small hinge that is on the center of the cover of the top compartment. When the top lid is closed it secures the drawers closed in place. When the lid is opened it unlocks the drawers. The instructions refer to the locking mechanism. To the best of my knowledge there was no reference to the drawer latch, juat the locking mechanism, which to me was the lock where the key to open the locking mechanism is located. . Unlime other carts, where there are one or two viaible push down locking pins, this particular tool cart has it within the hinge itself. Very well hidden. The instructions could be better written. This function wasn’t clear and mixed in with the reference to the keys and the lock found on the top compartment. Bottom line, in order to open the drawers the top lid must be opened. To shut them, the drawers must be pushed all the way back, then when the top lid is closed, the drawers stay locked in place, when the lid is opened, the drawers easily open & close. ... show more

This tool chest is perfect for someone who needs to store/organize a moderate amount of tools but who isn't collecting an extensive professional tool set. If you're forming your own Snap-On empire you should move along. Definitely get the "extra large" extended one because as others have mentioned, it's smaller than the pictures suggest so the XL was exactly what I was looking for. The black is unobtrusive and does its job without screaming "hey over here this is where he keeps his tools"! Some of the drawers were shallow and it has thin metal but it's also a fraction of the price I would have paid at Lowes or even Harbor Freight. The toolbox on top is noticeably sturdier than the base or middle section, making it top-heavy. This was immediately solved once I put my heavier tools in the lower cabinet and larger bottom drawers. I don't plan on moving it from place to place, but the wheels are heavy/sturdy and roll well. The one picture on the post makes it look as if the middle extension box is self contained. Be aware it is not - it's three side pieces and the front door flap which all bolt to the main structure. I was concerned about other posts mentioning it being damaged or fragile. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it was packaged. Everything was sealed in clear plastic, surrounded by styrofoam and also with cardboard panels, cardboard L sections and plastic corner pieces to prevent shifting. The assembly instructions were fairly useless but the video on the product page was clearer and most of it is very common sense. I followed my gut and had no issues, only backing up a few steps one time when I assembled a section out of order. The biggest downside was all the bolts/nuts/screws being unlabeled in the same baggie which had to be sorted out and identified. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and could see myself buying a matching one some day if I wanted to double the storage space. ... show more

It's a bit tiny and internal shelf design is poor. Top tool box is great. It's got that cost cuting feel to it, and may not be a lifelong product but a more of it use it till it breaks during a move feeling. It rolls well, as it is lightweight due to thin steel, and can hold a small assortment of tools. The pictures may be misleading it looks like 2/3 size compared to. Harbor freight or craftsman. All the included hooks never hang on, but I found that magnets or any magnet accessories work well. I use it to hold my electrical tools on top, and only 1/3 of my impact sockets on the bottom. If you spend 100 more at a HF, you would get double the storage volume, but far longer the life expectancy. If we were to keep the same price point, I would be more happy if they designed this out of reinforced plastic over the thin steel that seems to dent easily. ... show more
