  • Very fine performance from underrated Pixel
Size: 256 GB Style: Pixel 8 Color: Rose
First off, I confess to being a Pixel 4a fanatic. To my mind, it is the single best Android phone ever, given the price point, sleek dimensions, and durability. After four years of use, my darling Barely Blue 4a was still going strong. If it were up to me, I would have continued to use it until it would run no more. Alas, as with all things business nowadays, it has a usable lifespan that is shorter than its little-phoone-that-could heart. Google stopped providing security updates for it in August 2023, and I will not wade into the hatchet job the company effected from afar on Pixel 4a users through a forced battery software retool in January 2025. Luckily for me, my 4a was not among the Impacted Devices that imploded after Google's sneaky move. Still, the battery had already degraded, and the battery "fix" meant that it lost power sooner. My 4a is still fine as a backup phone, and I will use it that way going forward. In any case, I had purchased this Pixel 8 over the holidays, after being unimpressed by the Pixel 9 series phones at the significantly higher pricetag. No phone will rival the 4a in my heart (though perhaps the Pixel 5 was close enough), but this is now the most compact feature-laden phone I could find. The Pixel 8a is quite close, and I nearly chose that, but the 8 has significant upgrades that made it worthwhile, particularly as I actually paid less for it than sale prices on the 8a. The Pixel 8 has a sharp screen, snappy performance, and on the tweaks I care about, without any of the pricey additions that do not matter to me. Certainly the screen is brighter, the processor a tad faster, and the battery a bit beefier on the 9 series, but not enough to distract me from my wallet's contentment with the 8's pricetag. The fingerprint reader is a disappointment, particularly coming from the effortless 4a back-of-the-phone version, but again, not worth several hundred dollars more to me for the upgrade. This phone has guaranteed security updates through fall of 2030, smooth scrolling, all the great Pixel camera perks and none of the silly gimmicks. Although the 9a is just around the corner, I am quite content to sit with my Pixel 8 until someone wises up to the niche of folks who want a small (as in 4a size) phone with many but not all of the bells and whistles, or until I give up and purchase another phone with enough to offer to make it worth my while. ... show more

  • The Best Phone I've Ever Owned!
Size: 128 GB Style: Pixel 8 Pro Color: Porcelain
I've had this phone for 4 months now! Here are some things I LOVE: •Takes GORGEOUS photos • It's very fast • It has a long lasting battery and charges within an hour • The neutral yet sophisticated color of this phone. I put a clear case on it to show it off. • Unlocked - it was a breeze to set up with my existing carrier • Brightness has a wide range which is great for being outside in the sun and in bed with the lights off • Android has a seemingly unlimited number of customization features which I always am excited for Cons: • This thing is massive and kind of heavy - just something to think about • The camera sticks out a bit so the phone never lays flat on its back, only if you lay it screen side down • There is no double-tap to wake or turn off the screen - this is something I miss about my old phone Overall, it really is the best phone I've ever had - no regrets!! ... show more

  • Nice Phone
Size: 128 GB Style: Pixel 8 Color: Obsidian
My Pixel 5a died after only 3 years but I still wanted to stay with Pixel phones. I found this Pixel 8 still at the Black Friday sale price so I bought it. When I first started the phone the battery had to be charged and when I did the phone heated up, but after I downloaded all of the updates for the phone the heat issue disappeared. It seems to stay cool when watching videos too. I like all the improvements they made since the pixel 5 series. The battery lasts me a few days since I usually don't use it that much. I have the battery optimization set to only charge to 80% so it will last longer. Screen is beautiful. I'm surprised how fast this phone starts after being shut off. This phone is a big improvement over the 5a in my opinion. ... show more

  • Phone is great
Size: 512 GB Style: Pixel 8 Pro Color: Bay
I upgraded from S22 ultra I feel this phone is smooth, camera is phenomenal and the HDR and night boost is amazing. It does take time to upload and process the videos but it's been great so far. The camera AI features are nice to have. Its hard to take good family pictures when going out sometimes so the face edit is neat , the only downside it works for 5 people at max. The AI size adjustments and moving stuff is nice but need to be precise so when moving objects, AI can properly fill the place behind it I've encountered some freezes at first but it stopped after the latest update. Battery is good, i never ran out of battery but i never tried going a full day out where i might need to charge, I also got a power bank that I can attach to the back of the phone with the magsafe case i got from dbrand , thats why i didn't complain about the battery. I only used the power bank when i forget to charge my phone at night. Screen brightness is really bright. At night it can be a flashbang if you're in your room with lights out, becareful of the auto brightness. AI features like summarize and call screening only works in the US? I ordered it to a frieght forwarder and shipped it overseas. The summarize and call screening doesnt work. Car keys and google VPN doesn't work either. Google gimini got introduced in a recent update, its the google version of chat GPT. It works well but sometimes it glitches out for example, I asked gimini " show me the bullet train ticket prices from tokyo to kyoto " . It showed me prices in JPY and I asked to convert to my local currency and he did, tried that again few days later and gmini apologize and said he can't do it. You can't have google assistant and gimini at the same time when using shortcuts or the " hey google " . Sometimes im driving and i want to play a certain song but then i remember i have the gimini enabled and not assistant so i can't tell him to play the song because gimini answers questions and tasks are assistant's job. One con that really annoys me is the Bluetooth. Its weird. When i connect the phone to my car, sometimes it doesn't play the audio or the lag between audio and video is big, never had that in my s22 ultra. Also when playing music , my car screen always shows the song duration and name when using the S22 but on the pixel , it only shows the song title and no duration. Also there is a lag when displaying the song title. There is one tiny thing that i really liked is gesture control. You can double tap the back side of the phone to take screenshot or do a specific task, really cool. And the song auto detection is always welcomed. I once was watching a movie at home , the character was in Cafe and the cafe had background music. The phone detected it and i was surprised. Thats is all what i can think of as of right now ... show more
