  • Best Pixel Phone In A While. Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro Comparison.
A major update for a Google phones since the Pixel 2 (especially in terms of camera) Google has made some drastic design changes to hardware this time around instead of going incremental updates or improving some aspects while omitting some. Both are competitivity priced flagship phones when comparing what Apple and Samsung has to offer. Very feature rich for the price point. Throughout this review, going to compare the differences between the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro For reference throughout review I’m going to call the Pixel 6 ‘P6’, and Pixel 6 Pro as ‘Pro’ --What they have in common: Google now uses its own in-house chip (Tensor) instead of the 3rd party Qualcomm Snap Dragon Massive upgrade in camera hardware. We finally upgrade to 50 mega pixel rear camera. Pixel Series had 12.2 mega pixel sensor since Pixel 2. New camera app features are Magic Eraser, Motion mode, Real Tone, Face Unblur, Cinematic Pan. Going to go more detail on some later in comparison section Under screen fingerprint reader (Optical). Not as responsive as the back fingerprint reader of previous Pixel phones but works well most of the time. I’d make more finger profiles for the same finger if you have issues unlocking your phone. There are delays at times and not as quick and the back fingerprint readers. Seeing the larger size of the phones I’d say it’s a good decision especially for those with shorter fingers. Samsung and One Plus phones do under screen fingerprint sensor (ultrasonic) much better. No option to use facial recognition. Hopefully they patch that in future updates Power and volume rocker has this nice concave indent between them making it nice to press. Wished the power button was a different color so it’s easier to press it at a glance like previous Pixel phones. Buttons are very clicky, has a natural sound effect every time you press on it. Both P6 and Pro support sub-6 and millimeter-wave 5G if you get the Verizon version (not unlocked version) which cost $100 more. Otherwise, the unlocked version of P6 gets only gets sub-6 5G. 30W fast charging. Charger not included, but cables and USB adapter are included. Both have wireless and reverse wireless charging IP68 rating for dust and water resistance Security updates for at least 5 years (2026), but Android software updates stop at 3 years in 2024. Guess it’s to encourage those who are on the fence to upgrade to Pixel 9 -10 (?) when 2024, 2025 swings around. Snap Chat exclusive feature where you tap back of the phone to take a quick picture when phone is on sleep mode. Personally, don’t use Snap Chat so don’t know how effective it is. Live Translation. Now offline. Very accurate and fluid if English is one of the languages. Although similar to Google Translate app via text, it does not do well with similar sounding pronouns as it can’t figure out the context of the sentence. Seeing this is mainly software based, hopefully they can update this in the future Smart Speech Recognition/ Fast speech to text. I personally leaning towards this now as my preferred way to text. Call Screening for spam callers and telemarketers. If you have latest Android, it’s already doing this but more efficient ‘Hold for me’ feature: When calling a business to schedule appointments, point out mistakes in payments, need to check on status of something, or being Karens; the phone will go on hold for you and ring when a real live person is present. Also lets you see wait times throughout the day, and operator number select options are spelled out to you on screen (only English options). Android 12 out of the box. Seeing it’s a Google phone, will be the first to get the lastest Andriod updates for at least 3 years (as mentioned before) ---Now let’s see what justifies (or not) the $300 difference at launch from the Pixel 6 (P6) and the Pixel 6 Pro (Pro) The jist of it is the P6 is smaller in size, has lower specs, and doesn’t have the telephoto lens 1. Larger and higher-res screen. Pro has 6.7-inch LTPO OLED curved screen. P6 has 6.4-inch OLED flat. Refresh rate: Pro = up to 120hz. P6 = up to 90hz. Unless you’re downgrading from 120hz phone to 90hz you won’t tell the difference. On the flip side if you are downgrading, you’ll frequently complain of lag. Pro = Gorilla Glass Victus (front and back) P6 = Gorilla Glass Victus (front), Gorilla Glass 6 (back) P6 screen not as bright at highest light setting. 2. Build P6 has matte finish on edges Pro has glossy edges made of stainless steel and more durable Both have different color variations. I personally find p6 have better color options. Pro tend to lean towards a more professional look than casual 3. Camera Comparing to Pixel 5 normal still shots with main camera are not night-and-day and only can tell difference if you compare them side-by-side. Exception some skin tones. Also in Pixel 5 they are more cropped. For zoom-in (comparing Pro), night sight and video you can see a huge difference. Video is night-and-day for Pixel 6 series and Pixel 5, but not as good as the current iphone (I’ll go into this later). Seeing the new upgraded hardware, hopefully Google will put in new updates on the software side to improve the camera even more in the future. Both have a visor like the Nexus 6P making the phone have symmetry. Does not rock around on a flat surface when pressing on the screen unlike other phones which has camera setup on the corners. Wished it has a slop on top and bottom of visor instead of ending at 90 degree angle as it does collect dust there. But if you put a case over your phone this shouldn’t be an issue Both rear main camera setup is the same (50mega pixel) except the pro has additional 48-megapixel telephoto with 4x optical zoom. Front facing is 11 megapixel (Pro) vs 8 megapixel (P6) For video: 4K 30, 60fps on rear for both. Front cam Pro has 4K 30fps while p6 has 1,080p 30fps Magic Eraser. In camera app now. Before I had to use a 3rd party app like ‘Retouch’ or ‘snap seed’. Makes those 3rd party apps obsolete like when all phones decided to add the quick toggle flashlight feature on drop down menu. Able to erase people and objects in background. If you use photoshop; it’s basically the “content aware fill” feature, but built into the phone app and way faster. Depending on what you want to match/what’s in the background, you may get some smudging. Feature only available for photos taken with Pixel 6/pro. If you upload a photo from somewhere else, you are not able to edit. Able to add or remove blur called ‘Action Pan’ in settings. Personally, don’t use this. Feels way too artificial, but good for those who want a more artistic looking photo. Also built into photo app for easy access Unless you take a lot of selfies or like to zoom in a lot to take pictures; the main 50 mega pixel camera works really well on both (same camera). Something to keep in mind if the camera is the main purchasing decision. -Bonus: comparing to iphone 13 Pro Max For Camera: Pixel has better pictures overall as it has better dynamic range in color and lighting. Exception is that the iphone does better close up macro zoom photos on objects, selfie photos*, and the wide angle lens cover a bit more area. iPhone also have more real life representation while Pixel always tries to add HDR effect *People who have darker/tan skin get more of an orange look on iphone while Pixel looks more natural. Those who are African decent tend to more darker, or have overexposed light (on lighter skin) on iphone, while the Pixel look more like they do in person instead of a chocolate bar. For Video: Iphone still the best at video. But Pixel more vibrate colors making everything pop out especially if you take nature shots. Iphone has muted colors representing what you see in real life. Pixel 6,6 pro has a lot of focus drifting if there’s a lot of moving objects going different places Audio/mic on pixel takes out some the wind in the background when you turn speech enhancement on Iphone has better image stabilization. Has cinematic mode with constant Bokeh effect which Pixel does not have But overall the quality of iphone is a step ahead. Won’t notice a night-and-day difference (aside from maybe focus drifting) if you don’t compare them, but Pixel phones still has a ways to go. 4. RAM Pro = 12gb P6 = 8gb If you plan to play high graphic/frame rate intensive games, the Pro does a way better job. If you only play match 3 type games, both run well. 5. Bigger battery: 5,003 mAh (Pro) vs 4,614 mAh (P6) Despite the bigger battery; both last an entire day with more than 8 hours screen on time if you have medium or adaptive brightness. If you go full brightness it’ll last maybe 4 hours. If you’re not a power user, it can last up to 2 days. If you have the Pixel 5, it’s very similar battery life except the Pixel 6 series don’t drain battery overnight if you turn it off 6. Phone vibrate P6 vibrates near the top. Pro vibrates near the bottom. Prefer the Pro especially when you’re holding the phone doing tasks. Feels a bit awkward when using P6. Both when not in your hand has the same feel, intensity --Overall, one of the best phones for the Andriod OS. They should have named the phone something else like when they transitioned from Nexus to Pixel in my opinion. Highly recommended if you’re into the ecosystem. Pixel 6 is the best price for features at it's price point compared to it's competitors. Pixel 6 Pro is a good upgrade if you want added features for $300 ... show more
