    • An excellent choice for overseas trips
For a recent trip to Portugal and France, I wanted phone service but did not want the hassle of having to deal with finding a SIM card and setting it up. When you have a lot of items on your agenda, it's always helpful to have one less thing to worry about. Someone in the Rick Steves travel forums recommended using Google Fi. I used the Google Fi site to set up the service once I got the SIM card kit. It only took a few moments. I got a new number that I used for all our reservations and bookings. That way we were able to stay in communication with all parties whether we were in the US or in Europe. When we landed in Portugal, I turned on the phone and got a notification that the service was activating. It took only a few minutes to start working. It was excellent to have access to a lot of the important services we rely on -- Google Maps, Google Translate, Gmail, Uber -- not to mention just having data to look up reviews for restaurants. We had very good speeds and I don't think we ever lost service even in some fairly rural areas of the country. I had signed up for the Unlimited Plus plan so I didn't have to keep an eye on how much data I was using. The extra perk of Google Fi is the hotspot service. With the Unlimited Plus plan, you can attach your other phones or laptop to the phone with the Fi service and use them as you normally would. Our phones have the wifi calling feature so the hotspot capabilities let us text and call back to friends and family in the US with our regular US numbers as if we had never left the country. I was pleasantly surprised by that. Another bonus of the hotspot is it was much faster than the wifi in any of the hotels we stayed at. We had 5 flights and Google Fi just worked wherever we went, whether it was Portugal or France. Not only was signing up for Google Fi easy, it was just as painless to cancel when we got home. All told, for a two-week trip, I paid about $62 after taxes because Google gave me a $10 discount. I'm not sure how much data I used but it was probably on the order of about 15 GB.     • Expired, but still activated
Mine arrived from Amazon with an "Activate By" date that's about 1 month ago. It made me nervous when I activated, but it worked nonetheless. So I guess those dates don't mean anything, or maybe they have a grace period. It's a bit shady that the seller sells these "expired" sim cards. Google Fi's customer service is horrific - sure you can reach someone from chat, but they never know how to fix your problem. The most they will do is "escalate" the issue, but nobody ever gets back to you. So just keep your fingers crossed that you will not need support then you should be OK. Fi's connectivity in the US is ok at best, but no worse than any MVNO. Overseas though, it's convenient because it works in a lot of countries automatically (if you get the right plan). ... show more

    • Horrible Fi customer service. better buy dirctly from FI in stead of retailer
here is my story. short version, Buy from google so you don't risk losing your deposit if anyting goes wrong here you need to pay $10 upfront to get it. Fi will credit you $10, seems fine But in reality, tons of things could happen and you end up not getting that in my case, i got 3 card from Amazon for my 3 lines, all expired but the newer one works well. Activated and got the credit. two actually failed along the way, just not readable anymore. tried on couple of different phones. so , i wlll have to get another one from Target for iphonx which doesn't have eSIM so must use a Physical Sim, the other Samsung phone i managed to activate thru eSIM , seems no pSIM needed. at this point, all 3 phone works , 2 activated thru Physical sim , one thru eSIM, and i paid $40 total. but i only get $20 back thru Fi credit just because 2 phone activated thru physical Sim now stuck in a debate with Fi customer service asking for refund but they don't want to, telling me to talk to retailer. so i am returning those 2 failed cards to Amazon. I actually had ordered directly from Google before this, and paid $16 for express delivery. but 3 days after the due delivery date, they haven't even shipped out yet and refuse to cancel or refund. i am waiting for those to travel. so i have no choice and have to buy from amazon. overall horrible experience with Fi so far. ... show more

    • Expiration date is not a problem!
I received mine and noticed the package said that the SIM card expired on 10/2022 but I still installed the app and inserted the SIM and followed the instructions. And everything works just fine. Don’t let the expiration date stop you from trying.

    • It is not an international Sim Card, it's an USA sim card with international capabilities
As my title says, if you don't use it in the USA every now and then your international capabilities get auspended.It is NOT a fully international sim card, if you are not a US citizen living in the US do not buy it.

    • Google Fi is AWESOME!!
I switched over to google fi from verizon because the verizon service was so bad. So far ive had better signal and faster speeds everywhere, ive even taken trips and compared both with the same result. The best part is now i have THREE lines on Fi and its STILL LESS than i was paying for ONE line with Verizon!! Even better still is the spam filter is FREE on Fi vs an added fee on Verizon PLUS Fi has a FREE virtual VPN so now i can use the wifi at work on my phone to look at all the websites they had blocked. ... show more
