  • Good read!
I have read many books about clutter. I don't have a lot of clutter-- just pockets of clutter. But something in this book really resonated with me. Its the description of circles and completing what you are doing. You open the circle when you take something out and close it when you put it back. I love that and now I truly think about putting it back and closing the circle. If I don't follow through and put something back, I keep thinking about the open circle. ... show more

  • Insightful read
I’m sure that everyone could benefit from this book as many of us have too much stuff in our homes that prevents us from living well and having more free time. I like the way that the author explains everything – it makes so much sense and there is a lot of information here that I haven’t found anywhere else. She discusses the different blocks or areas that cause us to acquire guilty clutter such as gifts, inherited things, photographs, hobbies, memories or expensive things, and offers practical advice for sorting out each area. Especially insightful for me was that everything must have a home, a place where it belongs otherwise it will end up being clutter and it must go! Valuable and inspiring read! ... show more

  • You can do this
Less instructional than aspirational, this book combines the rudiments of tidying and cluttering techniques with a no-nonsense but friendly "just do it" approach. Bentsen focuses less on the mechanics than on changing your perspective: realizing that to care for yourself, you must care for your space. She accepts the reality and even the need for "active clutter" -- "it's a mess because I'm using it" -- and then helps the reader to keep that from becoming "passive clutter" -- the stuff you dread coming home to. The funny thing about this "aspirational" cluttering is that it has changed my thinking -- and thus my actions and my space -- more in a week than all the other "tidying up" books in my universe COMBINED. Bentsen has the key: she doesn't say "do this, then that" -- she says, "You know you want to." ... show more

  • Offers many practical tips on decluttering.
Whether you go for the ultimate goal of Hygge or not, you are given a feasible assignment on how to re-claim space and order in your house. You feel like cleaning up your dresser, your desktop, your souvenir shelf, your photo albums, your CD collection, right away to achieve quick results, after reading up specific tips for each type of commonly seen clutters around the house. It‘s a life-time assignment though and probably more appreciated by those who have accumulated clutters for at least four or five decades than by those of a younger generation. The “let go” attitude is a key takeaway. ... show more

I am enjoying this book. I have read a few decluttering books and this one is different. It has good ideas and I believe it is helpful to concentrate and focus on each section for inspiration.

  • Do it now!
This is a great little book with tips for decluttering your home and moving toward “Danish hygge.” The author has a humorous, lighthearted style. Her best tips include: a more perfect moment to declutter will never come; it is ok not to keep gifts forever; and if you do not fix a broken item in two weeks, just get rid of it! ... show more
