This set comes with 48 pcs, which isn't really enough to made anything worth while unless you have a magnetic board that you can attach these to and make a 2D scene. If you don't have that it's really just a jumbled mess that hardly resembles a platform scene. The booklet it comes with does show designs you can make with the 48 piece set, but they hardly resemble anything discernable. The other major issue is that the magnets are extreme weak, and can barely hold each other up. The small number of pieces would not be so much of an issue if these had strong magnets because you can compensate by stretching out the pieces to make walk ways and such, but the way it is they just fall over. It's a shame because each price is beautifully made with cute designs. The feel of each cube is premium with a matte textured surface. The colors are not just a cheap sticker or painted but embedded into the material. The colors are the right kind of shade and not bright and cheap looking. Overall it's hard to recommend this as it could be so much better, mainly it needs stronger magnets. I think if you put these on the fridge it might be okay but it will fall whenever you slam the door shut, so close it lightly. My son really does enjoy this set despite all these drawbacks however, and he makes it work. ... show more

    • Cute, especially for those who like Super Mario Bros
This is a cute set of blocks. The pieces look a lot like the classic bricks from Super Mario Bros., so if you have someone, a young child or older who's into video games, or likes the classic old Mario Brothers games, these will be a hit. I ordered these for my one year old granddaughter, but my 40-year old son plays with them more than she does. I'll never forget that Christmas back in the 80s when my kids unwrapped their new Nintendo game. The screams & excitement it brought are now being relived (sort of) through these blocks. The pieces are super cute, and though they don't look exactly like the Mario Brothers, they're close enough to bring about those same feelings as walls are built & then broken through. It's like making up your own game & different levels. The animal blocks, pigs, dogs, chickens, etc. are a riot & they're a lot of fun to play with, even by adults. Of course there are the classic bricks & grass that an be used to make up the different levels. Or they can be used as whatever is pictured on the blocks to make yards of grass, brick walkways & buildings, soil & water, where the animals live on a make-believe farm & the farmer cares for them. We have another set of magnetic blocks that are the same size, but they're solid colors. They can be used together with these as an even bigger block set. The box they come in also includes scenes & can be used as part of the set-up if wanted. For little ones, they can experience success with building since the blocks are magnetic & easily stick together to form towers & shapes. It's a cute little set. I would have preferred that it came with more pieces, so that older kids could use them to make larger kingdoms or more elaborate buildings & neighborhoods. ... show more

I ordered/received a small 30 piece package of solid colored magnetic blocks. It looks like this listing is for a new, larger version of these blocks with designs, but this review is for the solid color plain ones. My 3-year old LOVES these. They are easy to stack and change configurations. So many toys get played with a couple of times and never again, but she always comes back to this little set of blocks - sorting them by color, making them in to one big cube, a big flat rectangle, or a tall tower. The magnets are strong enough to keep it together but easy for little hands to pull apart and reconfigure. These are not kind to feet, though - I highly recommend picking these up after use, as those cube corners are sharper than they seem. Oof! ... show more

The set is really nice and looks fantastic. My kids loved them. However, I assumed they were the same size as another set I had gotten before that wad recommended for the same age range. They are MUCH smaller. I was disappointed with that as I don't feel as safe for my littler kids to play with them. I would recommend this toy for ages 5+ ... show more

My son really enjoys these cubes. He has this set along with a Minecraft set. The designs and colors are vibrant and work really well together to build cool worlds. The set includes all the familiar Mario characters, but has the pixelated look that Minecraft is known for, which is why the two sets work so well together. The magnets make it easy to build larger structures. And also make cleaning up and storing easy as they lock together into larger cubes and can be placed in a small tote.
