I got this for my five-year-old nephew, who loves gems and jewelry. I mainly got this one because it 1) didn't say "for girls" on it/didn't include only pink and purple (surprisingly hard to find), and 2) included necklaces rather than only bracelets. The kit is not a show-stopper in my eyes, but he LOVED it. He actually did not even end up using the necklaces - they don't have stoppers at one end like the bracelets do, so beads will fall off without holding one end and it was harder for him to assemble. The necklaces are simple cheap chain beads with those little locking clasps, and the bracelets are metal with a screw cap at the end that can be removed for adding beads -- an important note because if one of the caps hadn't arrived unscrewed, it wouldn't have been obvious how beads are supposed to actually go on the chain. One of the charms had to be glued back together, as the face plate had popped off the backing. When I relayed what the "I Love Mom" charm said, he exclaimed that he DOES love mom, and proceeded to tell everyone in the room how much he loved them - very cute :) I also gifted him an expensive Leap Frog telescope, but this jewelry kit was the bigger hit. ... show more

Decent quality beads and charms. I should have opened the charm bag for you. Cute selections (e.g. ice cream, unicorns, I Love Mom, Christmas, narwhal, rainbow.) Hardware is included to make 2 bracelets and 3 necklaces. Our 4 yr old friend enjoyed making a few things for herself and several for family members. You need to unscrew the bracelet chain to thread the beads (not mentioned in kit.) ... show more
