I got these for a wine closet I'm building and want to be able to highlight the racks with some light, so I needed a gimbal type recessed light. These are very bright--I'd advise putting them on a dimmer. I haven't installed them yet because the wine closet is under construction, but I tested them with a Lutron Diva CL DVCL-153P dimmer that is designed to work with LED lights, and the light dimmed very nicely with the switch. The light dimmed smoothly, showed no flickering or buzzing, and dimmed to a very low light level. As importantly, when the dimmer was set to the lowest/dimmest setting, the light still turned on reliably (some lights won't do this and require the dimmer to be set at a higher setting to turn on). The gimbal feature is nice, it smoothly turns from being flat/co-planar with the ceiling to being fully perpendicular to the ceiling and anywhere in between. It's nice to have the different color temperature settings; the 2700K setting is very warm; the 3000K is just about right to my eyes, and the other cooler color temps might be good for a setting where you're using these for task lighting like in a kitchen or office. The finish on the visible part of the light showed some very small imperfections like little bubbles, etc. There were only a couple on each light, and you'd never notice them when the can light is installed on a ceiling eight feet up, but that's a tradeoff I'd make for the face that these are a good value compared to come of the brand-name lights. As with all line voltage (120 volt) electrical devices I install in my home, I want to make sure they are UL or ETL listed, meaning they've been certified by an independent authority as being safe. I don't want a substandard device that could possibly cause a fire. These are marked as ETL listed, so that's re-assuring. One other minor note--these come with push-in wire connectors to use in hooking up the lights. I personally don't like using push-in connectors; I think traditional wire nuts give a more secure, durable connection with less likelihood of problems down the line. I like that this manufacturer includes the push-in connectors but doesn't pre-install them on the lights wires, because that saves me the hassle of removing them (and it can definitely be a hassle). I would buy these again and have no problem recommending them. ... show more

There is a lot to like about these lights. The new led ceiling fixtures like these are now so easy to install either in new construction or in remodels. No more big Halo cans. These have a connection box that just sits on the drywall and the led light that snaps in. This means there is no air leakage with these fixtures. They completely seal to your ceiling. They come with 3 push wire connections instead of wire nuts because they are easier to get a secure connection. Wire nuts need to be twisted until the wires wrap several times past the wire nut to insure a good connection. With these you just push the wire in. There is room for 4 wires in each connector for pass through connections. There is plenty of room in the box for 2 14-2 wires (see pics). The gimbles rotate a full 360 degrees. The rotation is very smooth. They push to angle down and can go to almost 90 degrees. This makes them easy to adjust for any lighting situation. The color setting is done with a switch on the connection box so make sure you get it set to the right color before snapping the lights into your ceiling. Lots of light, easy to install, easy to rotate, completely seal at ceiling, color adjustable, dimmable, and push fit connectors make these a good choice in gimbal ceiling lights. ... show more

Very nice gimbal lights. I had a situation that called for these and they worked out great. Aluminum housing and a metal box. Dimmable, easy to install, selectable color temperature. 90 degree tilt makes these amazingly versatile.

    • Solved my long awaited stairwell lighting issue in my basement!

The media could not be loaded. I have stairs leading to my finished basement that were completely dark (huge fail on the builders). I wanted to do something about it, but since the staircase ceiling is at an angle (due to stairs above it), a regulars light wouldn't work. A recessed sloped can was out of the question as well since there was practically no space between the drywall and the stairs above. Enter this gimbal light. The housing is thin enough to fit inside the drywall, and is sleek enough to move perfectly while not looking awkward or weird.
