I got these for a wine closet I'm building and want to be able to highlight the racks with some light, so I needed a gimbal type recessed light. These are very bright--I'd advise putting them on a dimmer. I haven't installed them yet because the wine closet is under construction, but I tested them with a Lutron Diva CL DVCL-153P dimmer that is designed to work with LED lights, and the light dimmed very nicely with the switch. The light dimmed smoothly, showed no flickering or buzzing, and dimmed to a very low light level. As importantly, when the dimmer was set to the lowest/dimmest setting, the light still turned on reliably (some lights won't do this and require the dimmer to be set at a higher setting to turn on). The gimbal feature is nice, it smoothly turns from being flat/co-planar with the ceiling to being fully perpendicular to the ceiling and anywhere in between. It's nice to have the different color temperature settings; the 2700K setting is very warm; the 3000K is just about right to my eyes, and the other cooler color temps might be good for a setting where you're using these for task lighting like in a kitchen or office. The finish on the visible part of the light showed some very small imperfections like little bubbles, etc. There were only a couple on each light, and you'd never notice them when the can light is installed on a ceiling eight feet up, but that's a tradeoff I'd make for the face that these are a good value compared to come of the brand-name lights. As with all line voltage (120 volt) electrical devices I install in my home, I want to make sure they are UL or ETL listed, meaning they've been certified by an independent authority as being safe. I don't want a substandard device that could possibly cause a fire. These are marked as ETL listed, so that's re-assuring. One other minor note--these come with push-in wire connectors to use in hooking up the lights. I personally don't like using push-in connectors; I think traditional wire nuts give a more secure, durable connection with less likelihood of problems down the line. I like that this manufacturer includes the push-in connectors but doesn't pre-install them on the lights wires, because that saves me the hassle of removing them (and it can definitely be a hassle). I would buy these again and have no problem recommending them. ... show more
