In some ways this is better than the expensive plastic opener tool that I have. I feel like it doesn’t rub the bat as aggressively as the plastic one does. The best thing about these tools is they make your pot bottoms even and the same depth each time. The fiddly part of this tool is that you have to adjust it using a bolt. The pro to that is you can set any weight you want. The con is two fold: one, you really need a ruler or mark a spot at the exact depth you want, and two, after opening a few pots the bolt loosened so the middle moved and wasn’t where I needed it anymore. Not for me. We tried and tried. We passed it around our pottery studio and we all had the same issues. I watched A video and it’s possible that we didn’t open it slowly enough . Maybe it’s better if you’re still learn and learn opening on this . The quality is nice.

I am a new potter. I saw a similar tool on YouTube and have been wanting to get one. This one is perfect regarding the price. By using the tool, I am able to create a big-sized plate, which I couldn't achieve with my hands. Also, the bottom of the plate is flat, which I couldn't achieve manually. The tool is well-made; it is sturdy, and the wood handles and the center piece are smooth. It takes a bit of time to get used to, but it’s easy to handle. I adjusted the middle piece to the thickness that I want and just leave it in position. I don’t need to adjust the middle piece often. It’s a regular tool that I carry to my clay studio. I used to enjoy working with clay, especially on my ancient pottery wheel. Unfortunately, arthritis in my hands has made that challenging. It’s particularly hard using my thumbs as I begin to open the mouths of ceramic bowls or cups. It’s a crucial step that I often struggled with. As a result, I rarely did it anymore. I've seen the more expensive brand of this in a pottery shop, and I wanted to try it. I was pretty happy to see a more affordable knock off. It works well if you want to make the same thickness of bottoms on your pots. I think it would be helpful for newbies and people who have problems with their fingers. It's made well. This pottery tool is sturdy when put together and works great. It is easily adjustable so you can adjust the height of your foot. It is perfect for those with issues with taking too much off of the bottom or vice versa. It is also good for opening your mugs if you have long nails. It’s easy to put together and clean.
