The brake works well. I would recommend buying the removal tool. Once the old brake is removed I had issues trying to pull the existing cable wire to refit back into the new brakes retaining hook, extremely hard, vise grips or the tool may help. So, I was happy to find this as every part store I checked didn't carry it. Which I found odd as this is a common item for failing on this car. The only complaint is it was put in a low end 1/4 layer bubble layered envolpe that when I got it was tearing apart in 3 different spaces. It was oboviously banged around a bit. I didn't relealize it was that hard to put such an item into a box with proper wrapping. It survived the trip and is working and time will tell. ... show more

Installation was smooth with the exception of the Brake cable attachment. I didnt have that "special" tool so it was a chalange. Make sure to take note of the wire routing when the unit is removed.

    • Genuine GM emergency brake mechanism!
The S-10 is famous for having these mechanisms fail. Mine was almost impossible to release. Thought it was the cable….. NOPE! 9 times out of 10 it’s this mechanism. The good news is it’s easy to R&R. Now the thing is factory fresh! Very happy 👍🏻

Could it be easier to install? Not with this design, but a tip: you can use a small hose clamp to compress the parking brake cable to remove the cable from the assembly. After installing, I found that I have to pull the pedal up with my foot to turn the brake light off. Yes, it works, but it's annoying to have to install the assembly to find that quality control was lacking. Every time I use the parking brake, I'll be reminded of the exercise of installing it and the poor workmanship of the product. ... show more
