The Good: This product is extremely charming and convenient for travel and even home use. Using the included USB-C cable and the Covert Dock Mini, I've begun to feel safe using this third-party dock in hopes it won't fry and brick my Switch due to Nintendo's unusual USB-C PD protocol (even the official dock has resulted in this, though it is rare). Even when not used as a dock, it is an extremely sturdy and robust charger that is much smaller than the Nintendo official charger or any other charger Nintendo has licensed for use with the Switch. I haven't run any tests to prove this claim, but it seems to charge the Switch as well as the official dock and not any slower, which is a huge relief. It never claimed to charge any faster than official dock, and I don't believe Nintendo even has the capability built into the system to handle this. It does fast charge my phone though, which is one less charger I need to bring around! The Covert Mini Dock is NOT scratched in the box, it simply has a plastic peely on it to protect the sheer, glossy surface and I cannot believe that in 2023 we have people who do not understand this concept which has existed for literal decades. The Bad: It honestly felt impossible to find any flaws with the Covert Mini Dock. The only flaw I could find originally by nit-picking is that the gray FCC sticker on the device doesn't fit very well and often seems to want to peel off. This can be easily fixed by either changing the shape of the sticker so it hugs the contours of the device, or even printing the information on the device itself. It felt impossible to find any flaws, that is, until I took it on vacation with me. The dock worked flawlessly for charging and gaming, just as it did when I used it at home or out of the house. The problem arose when we wanted to watch Hulu and YouTube. The hotel TV displayed a message that there was no input. Unplugging the Switch, Hulu and YouTube work undocked. We started something undocked, plugged it back in, and again were greeted with the "no input" message. Somehow, though, pressing the Home button on the controller brings back the Home menu screen as though nothing had happened. After some investigating online, it appears as though the Covert Dock and Covert Dock Mini CANNOT utilize streaming entertainment apps. The apps on the Switch itself read the Genki dock replacements as recording devices, and therefore has a protocol to disable video streaming. This is not a setting that can be changed on the Switch, or through any of the apps. It appears to be a piracy prevention programmed into streaming apps. Hoping that this information was somehow incorrect or maybe the HDMI cable I travel with is somehow broken in some way or doesn't support HDMI 2.1, we used an official Nintendo HDMI cable with the Covert Dock Mini. This didn't help at all. We were able to borrow an official Nintendo dock, and then we were able to use the streaming apps flawlessly regardless of which HDMI cable we used. So the unfortunate truth of the matter seems to be that these Covert Docks are strictly for playing games and nothing more. It isn't a tremendous hindrance, honestly, but it's hard to feel like the Covert Docks are truely worth replacing the official dock since they cannot fully function as expected. There was no indication to this feature failure in any of the literature provided by Genki, which feels nefarious as this should have included this information. Unless they can somehow implement a firmware update or something for the devices to circumvent this flaw, I don't feel like this is worth purchasing if you can get an official dock refurbished for upwards of $20 more (including official power brick and HDMI). Even though it can't display audio or video from video streaming apps, the device still has lots of merits in my opinion and may still be right for you. I am personally just disappointed with Genki for the feature incomplete aspect of the Covert Docks. You may also wish to purchase a 6' or 8' HDMI cable, as it is unusual and a tad inconvenient to plug in an HDMI from a wall outlet to your TV as opposed to having your device much closer to your TV. ... show more

If you intend to purchase this strictly for a Nintendo Switch: there is no reason to go for this one over the original GENKI Covert Dock, which will be cheaper now that this is out. This dock offers no tangible improvements over the original when used with a Nintendo Switch console. The Switch is limited by hardware to output a maximum of 4K at 30hz, or 1080p at 120hz. Within the original Nintendo Switch OS (named Horizon), you'll never see anything above 1080p at 60hz. This means that the original Covert Dock matches the Switch's hardware limitations in all regards. If you intend to use this for docking or displaying any other device on an external monitor: Covert Dock 2 does not support 1080p resolutions at 144hz or above. It can comfortably do 1080p at 120hz with no graphical issues. However, with my Lenovo Legion Go, it did not reliably charge my device when plugged into the wall outlet, likely because 45W is a very low specification for the Legion Go, which ships with a 65W adapter. This is an iterative upgrade meant specifically for devices that are not the Nintendo Switch, and it doesn't seem to majorly change how you'll use your other devices unless they are low-power or highly power efficient portable devices like an iPad. ... show more

A dock, card, and charger with something that small that works for the Switch? Whatever that's not real. Oops I was wrong. I don't use the USB-A port, but it's nice to have in case I need it for...charging something else? It's most likely a Steam Deck thing which is fine. I didn't notice a difference in 1080p vs 4K on my TV while using it, but it didn't matter to me. I didn't want to use the dock anymore since space on my entertainment center is a premium. The ability to connect to a TV while providing power in something the size of a large plug is what is most important to me. Oh yeah plugs. I don't know why it came with an angled USB C plug on one end, but my guess was that's for the sake of saving space. It would be cool to have the option of a regular USB C or an angled one, but eh no big deal. It comes down to this - do you want to replace the dock with something that's 75% smaller but does the same thing? Get this. ... show more

Got this so I could travel with a dock to run/charge my switch on a TV if I wanted to. Ran perfectly fine for weeks, was great for size and weight, super easy to throw into a backpack. Cables themselves took up more space and weight.
