  • Easy to Program - Works with Ryobi.
Was skeptical at first, but really does work with Ryobi. Was able to program within minutes out of the box. Probably the easiest keypad I have ever programmed. It was a headache free experience. Opens and closes the door every time. Very reliable product!

  • Will not work for any Liftmaster with a part number ending in MC including 98022, 8500, 8500C, 8500W
WARNING!!! The universal version of this keypad is not compatible with any Liftmaster units that have product numbers ending in MC -- MC only appears on the physical label of the units. 98022 and 8500 are MC units (jackshaft aka wall mounit lift motors), see what I think is a complete list below. I wish someone would have posted this or it was disclosed by Genie in advance (not even on their support web page) but it wasn't -- so I'm going to save a bunch of you 2+ hours of time by letting you know! Looks like a nice universal keypad, however, I had to return it because it will not work with my Liftmaster 98022. Any Liftmaster that has a part number ending in MC this will not work with, apparently these models are made by Liftmaster to not work with universal keypads. MC does not appear anywhere when buying these openers but it's on the product label of the units, see my pic. From my research I believe all these models are MC (verify via your label though to be sure): 8587W, 87504-267, 87802, 84602, 84501, 8365W-267, 8160WB, 8160W, 8165W, 8155W, 8164W, 98022, 85870, 83650-267, 81600, 81602, 81650, 81550, 81640, 84504R, 84505R Genie would be well-served to save both their time and customers' time by stating incompatible lift units rather than just saying it works with all yellow learn button units which is simply untrue. In my case, I spent 2 hours trying to program it and finally level 2 Genie Support confirmed in 10-seconds it's incompatible. Not a good user of their time nor mine. But like I said, if you have another Liftmaster or other lift and need a universal keypad, I think this one is well made. I purchased it rather than the Liftmaster because Liftmaster has chosen to use god-awful colors and do not offer any white models except for the new unit that has a built in camera and very poor battery life (VKP1-LM). I will buy a camera model if/when Liftmaster releases a wired unit that doesn't require unmounting to access batteries to change them every few weeks or months (best case). Even Genie support people wish the incompatible models were listed somewhere. ... show more

  • very cheap
I have had this for almost a year & a half, at a home I use very infrequently. I’m there for a month, then hot there for 2 or 3 months, then back. So it’s used not often, having the opener in my car. So, just using when using the garage door when gardening, etc.. But, I change batteries VERY frequently, thinking that’s my problem with it NOT opening when I do the code and “enter”. So again yesterday, locked out of the garage thinking I could just open it with the key code, when all the other doors were locked, and did not have the car key to get into the car and use THAT garage door opener. Took. out the batteries, switched them around, put them back in. Nope, wouldn’t work. Tried that about 5 times. Now I thought I’d have to break into my own house. After about 15 minutes messing with it, it did open. Changed the batteries AGAIN. Chcecked the batteries on a battery checker, and they’re fine. I’m thinking this unit is not the greatest ... show more

  • Clunky for dip switches but works
We have two old Genie garage door openers, the type with 12 dip switches and no learn button. This opener does work with them, but the process is a bit clunky to program. The operation for two doors is a bit weird too, you have to put in the code, hit the open/close button, and then hit the number of the door you want to open. Ultimately we ditched the two door and just set it for one which eliminates the last step. Range seems ok, works better on one door than the other. Buttons are sensitive and take some getting used to. Construction is good, programming was as described, product works just fine. ... show more

  • Did not work out for me.
Tried this item before. Home Depot has it. It will not let me use the remote and the key pad to operate the doors. I have a detached two car garage. we have tried and tried to get it to work. I ordered a different product in hopes that I can keep from replacing the openers. I ordered this one thinking it was different than what I had replaced already. I have been using the other one for about a year and it’s annoying to use the remote for opening and closing for yard work. But even more annoying to get out of the car and push buttons to open the door. I am hoping that the next one will work. ... show more

  • Ecstatic!
We moved to a house with no garage keypad which can be quite an inconvenience at times. I purchased a Chamberlain MyQ Bluetooth device which was an imperfect solution, as it would occasionally lose the signal or the app would forget my login info. I decided to finally research and install a keypad and settled on the Genie Universal one for my Linear brand garage door opener. The install looked easy enough but I figured the programming would be a pain. Here is the bottom line: I programmed and installed it in literally less than 20 minutes and it works flawlessly. A very effective and simple solution at a very low price. ... show more
