  • Great alternative to the key fob style remotes
I recently purchased a new home, and the existing garage door remote was of the key fob style. I didn't want it on my keys and it didn't have a clip for the visor, so it ended up just rolling around in the cup holder for a few weeks until an unexpected coffee bath forced me to search for a replacement. This is more like what I had in mind for a garage door remote. It's larger than the newer key fob style remotes, but at about the size of a deck of playing cards, it's still a bit smaller than the garage door remotes that my parents had 20+ years ago. The included visor clip is reversible, and can be attached from either the top or bottom, although it does not allow for a vertical orientation, only horizontal. The hard plastic buttons provide both tactile and auditory feedback when pressed, unlike the rubber ones on the key fob remotes, where it can sometimes be hard to tell if you've pressed them. The hard plastic buttons also hold up a lot better in car interiors, especially in hotter climates. The only downside I can find is that the range seems somewhat limited compared to the key fob remote that it replaced. The old remote could open and close the door 3 houses down the street, but this one doesn't work much beyond the end of my driveway. This surprised me, as I expected that a larger device with a higher voltage battery would have slightly better range. Not a very big deal though, as you should always keep the door in sight when it is in motion anyway, even with modern safety mechanisms. ... show more

  • While, I, on the other hand, programmed the center button without difficulty
I only have a single, double-wide door, so I only needed one button. However, since price of remotes seemed not to be dependent on buttons, I went with the three. And, for whatever reason, I didn't have any problem programming the center button. [The only warning that came with the remote was that only one button at a time can be programed for a given opener.] Another factor is that I had ordered the above model, but what arrived was a model GITR-3BX. Oh well, it works. Two factors that might be considered when ordering a Genie remote is that all the three button, rectangular, Genie remotes have only one frequency, 390MHz, which means that are only to be used with Intellicode *1* security systems. This means that they will probably NOT work with openers using Intellicode 2 which have been sold for several years, even if they claim to work with all openers "...manufactured 1995-CURRENT." "CURRENT" probably refers to the time the remotes were first introduced, and nobody has updated this claim. Another factor to consider is that these units use a 12 volt batteries, just like the originals. There are a couple of new, dual-frequency, three-button Genie Remotes that look cute, and can clip to a visor, or attach to a key ring. And, with a little finagling, they can be used with Intellicode 1 systems as well as Intellicode 2. The problem? They use a little 3-volt button cell. Remember what it is like trying to squeeze the last couple of volts out of a dying battery in a remote? That is the kind of range they have. Perfectly adequate to carry if you need a remote to open the garage door if you don't have the car, but not too good if you tend to open or close the garage door a couple of car-lengths away. ... show more

  • Love my new genie remote garage door opener with its clip
Size Name: 1 Pack
I attempted to order a replacement clip for my existing garage opener remote but it did not fit. So I ordered the garage opener with the clip so that I could place the opener remote on my overhead visor. I rest the remote to the genie and it worked instantly. I am content because I can now clip the remote to my visor and have access to open the garage door without having to hold the remote in my hand. ... show more

  • Very Good Range
After purchasing the G3T-R and found that it had a terrible range (you can look at my review), I purchased this one because the reviews showed that it had better range. The item was received in very good condition in its retail box, but the box was crushed due to poor packing. The unit was not damaged. I attempted to set button 3 to my older (Intellicode 1) opener, but it would not recognize it. The lights indicated that it was programmed, but it would not open the garage door. While playing with the buttons, I noticed that the light on the power head flashed the same with button 3 and 2, but flashed differently with button 1. So I attempted to program button 1. It worked! It is possible that buttons 3 and 2 were programmed for Intellicode 2, but the documentation does not state that this remote is capable of Intellicode 2. A search of the internet came up empty. The 4 star rating is because I couldn't get buttons 2 and 3 to work with my garage door opener. As far a range, it is pretty good. I was able to open my garage door from about 100 ft away. However, it would have been nice to be able to open the garage door from the street (about 180 ft away) as I was able to do with the HomeLink on my previous car. (My new car doesn't have HomeLink available which is the reason for buying this remote.) ... show more
