  • Absolutely Fantastic.
style: 4-Channel
When it came time for me to upgrade from my Mixtrack Pro, and Hercules MP3 E2 to a real four channel controller I researched every possible unit and came to find the G4V was the one I kept vacillating between because it is as good as it looks on paper. Received it today and the build quality is properly sturdy, not too heavy at 11 lbs., plastic knobs on the EQ as opposed to rubberized, however. The knobs are the best I've felt on any controller despite being plastic. They are light and nimble, with the tactile notch of the mid-point of the knobs a very subtle sensation as opposed to other units. It put me off at first but getting them moved around today I love them and how easily and confidently you can be accurate with them. The VU meters are excellent, where have they been my whole life? Hefty platters but not overly so, don't really care for/about the touch-sensitivity feature. Faders are the best I've felt on any mixer or controller anywhere, and are narrower and taller than the usual faders you're accustomed to. Incredibly innovative little tweak, in my opinion. No +/- Pitch Bend buttons was probably the worst trade-off with this unit. I considered the Numark N4 and Quad controllers, have felt and played with all of them, and this Gemini wins out on looks and build quality but doesn't have the same functionality of the Numarks. No CDJ or Phono support in this controller, despite the AUX input (it's possible to hook one up but you probably wouldn't want to because the pre-amp isn't very good). For the price this is the knees of the bees. Buy it and never look back. ... show more

  • outstanding but vdj is 300$ more dollars so thank god for Traktor
style: 4-Channel
ok pro's its 400$ cheaper then other controllers that do the same, a metal construction, really nice jog wheels when you put your hand on them the track playing stops, it has a traktor mapping, the pads are really nice to use it has good outputs and a really decent controller over all cons are that if u dont have the pro version of virtual dj your going to have to pay 300$ dollars because you can only use it with the non pro version for about 10 minutes at a time then you have to close the software and re open if u want about 10 more minutes. i find it really rediculos on how much virtual dj makes u pay its really stupid. but this is not a big one because it has a traktor mapping and traktor is 100$ the full pro version yeah and traktor is a really nice software just takes some getting used to and it is pretty simple after a while. but the traktor mapping changes some of the nob functions but u get used to that too and it takes away samples but not a big deal either since its 4 channles just load a sample onto a deck. also the low nob is mapped to the wrong nob but its really really easy to re map that yourself! ... show more

  • Solid controller, software mapping is incomplete for everything but VDJ LE
style: 2-Channel
I have owned this for just over a month and a half, and I have very few complaints. I am not a professional DJ in any way, shape, or form (nor do I know anyone who is), but I have always been intrigued with DJing. After months of searching, researching, reading hundreds of reviews, and trying my hand on a lot of controllers from guitar center, I finally decided on the Gemini G2V due to its solid build construction, highly recommended jog wheels, and internal sound card. From a hardware perspective, this thing is brilliant. It is a flipping tank; it feels incredibly solid and looks and feels like it could survive many a rough night at nightclubs. All of the nobs and sliders feel wonderful - nothing on this controller feels cheap, save for the CUP, CUE, Play/Pause, and SYNC buttons, which are a hard plastic, as opposed to the softer rubber/silicone used everywhere else. They click nicely, and feel like the buttons used on controllers such as the Numark Mixtrack II. Nothing shabby, just cheaper feeling. The latency on the device is incredibly low. I can scratch accurately, etc. Overall, I am very impressed with the hardware. The integration and mapping with VDJ LE is also superb. Literally plug it in, install VDJ LE from gemini's webpage or the included disk, and you are good to go. Easy and straight forward. Now for the downsides. There is one feature that I wish the controller had: pitch controller. Currently, the only way to control the pitch of the track via the controller is to use the Tempo slider. At first, this wasn't a huge deal, I would just find tracks with keys that would work with the playing track. But, when you /do/ want to change a track's pitch, it is really annoying and fairly difficult. I have tried unsuccessfully to add a map to use shift + loop move to change the track key, but no dice. Which brings us to the worst part of the controller: Mapping. This thing is quite difficult to map, and the only full-featured mapping provided for the controller is for VDJ LE. No, VDJ Pro or Home mappings are not complete. No, Traktor mapping is not complete. And it will not work at all with pretty much any other software ( I have heard rumors of it being partially mapped with Mixxx, but I cannot confirm). Sadly, there is not a large community of people using this controller yet to have complete and well-made mappings for Traktor (which in my noobish opinion is much better than VDJ) or even VDJ Home or Pro. Normally, this wouldn't be a large problem, but VDJ LE is quite limited in what it can do. You cannot change mappings from within the software, you cannot make or use playlists (though I am currently experimenting with using virtual folders for this). Additionally, there is no way to change the crossfader curve. And for some reason, you cannot record samples using the controller (even though in the included manual it says you can? Anyone know anything about this?). Regardless of these shortcomings, I still love this controller. It has its weaknesses, and I could not recommend it for a touring DJ simply due to its poor mapping with professional quality software (I do not consider VDJ LE to be professional). However, if you are just starting out DJing and you want something that is solid and well made at the cost of software restriction, this is definitely the controller for you. Since I do not plan on DJing professionally and just use it for my own personal enjoyment, I have been wholly satisfied with this controller. Two thumbs up. ... show more

  • You are going to like this one!

Purchased this unit on Amazon and it arrived intact - very well packaged. Set it up, started using, and love it. It is solid... very solid. Unlike many other controllers in this price range and lower, all the controls are solidly built and adjust flawlessly. The jog wheels are heavy as well with a very solid feel. I had read reviews noting it is well built, but I had no idea. This thing integrates fully with VDJ - not tried it on any other package. I did have to go through a firmware update to get the lights to link up with VDJ, but very simple download... took all of about 3 minutes. The connections are good, RCA and XLR with 1/4" connects for cueing headphones and a mic. II could go on and on about how pleased I am but I will spare you. The thing that really stands out is how well it is built. It is heavy. In fact, since I DJ out of two parts of the country and did not feel like carrying this thing around (hefty), I bought a second one. ... show more

This was a pretty amazing controller....for a day, I was suppose to use it for a gig but right before it stopped working, I had to run home to get a backup controller, it really was sad to know I put so much trust into it. The package was also damaged pretty bad at its corners. I had to send it back for a refund... maybe it was the one I specifically got. ... show more
