the edge guard is designed to go around the edge, key word being around. If you are using a 16 mm core paddle the width should be about 3/4 inch, but if you include the edge of both sides of the edge guard add approx 1/4 inch on each side, which comes out to be 1 inch. if you apply this with study hands, you'll still have plenty of room to work with, won't cover the entire edge. still have 1/16" gap. So all in all yes it fits paddles perfectly. The people that are trimming this thing are only putting it right on the edge and not wrapping it around the edge, which defeats the purpose ... show more

Bought this on short notice, so had to buy the wider width for my graphite paddle. However, it was easy to cut the tape in half to fit my narrower paddle. After a month of use the tape is beginning to wear, but that’s as expected.

    • Great way to protect edge of paddle except……

I love this tape, this was heavy duty protectant for the edge of the paddle except if you have a thinner Gearbox paddle, it’s too wide for the edge. I had to use an razor blade and cut the width so it would fit my paddle. The wide brim paddles it fits great but narrow widths, needs altered.

Product description is a little ambiguous here... There seems to be two versions of this tape--one sized for a racquetball racquet, and one sized for a pickleball paddle--yet ultimately only one choice is offered. Does this mean that one product will suit both? I bought, using that reasoning. When the package came, it was clear that this tape would work on my pickleball paddle only after extensive trimming. According to USAPA rules, "Tape can extend no more than 0.5 inch inside the outer edge of a paddle (2.E.5.b.)," so some trimming is necessary for it even to be legal. Aside from this annoyance, the tape performs fine and the graphics add extra swagger to my Gearbox paddle. The package comes with 3 strips, enough to re-do the job 3 times (or even more, if you don't care about slicing through the Gearbox logo when you trim the tape). ... show more

I have 2 Gearbox GX5 pickleball paddles. Paddle thickness is 7/16". The edge guard tape is too wide so you will need to trim as shown in the pics. The tape protects the edge guard from about 10a to 2p. Other than the need to trim, tape is a nice addition to protect the edge guard.
