    • Finally found a transfer pump with a long enough intake hose
I've been looking for a legitimate gasoline transfer pump for months. Here's my scenario. I ride a Harley motorcycle everyday to work and I'm at the gas pump every 4 days or so filling up with premium 91 gas. Living in AZ, we have Fry's grocery stores which offer fuel rewards points. I never wanted to use those rewards for my 5-6 gallon motorcycle fill ups and finally decided to do something about it. I purchased (2) 15 gallon fuel containers (which can actually hold closer to 18 gallons each) to allow me to get to the maximum 35 gallon limit when using the fuel rewards points. Saving $35 per fill up offset the cost of the gas cans within 6 months, so I pulled the trigger. I'm a large man and don't have any issues lifting the full gas containers into my vehicle once they are full, but there's zero chance I'm going to attempt to use those full containers to dispense gas into my motorcycle. I had found several 120v AC & 12v DC gas transfer pumps that have a shaft pump system and standard looking gas pump nozzle on the end. They actually work exactly as desired with 1 major problem...they don't make the shafts long enough to reach the bottom of my gas containers. The 15-gallon Flo-Fast gas cans that I purchased are roughly 35" tall and none of the shafts actually reach the bottom of the container to allow me to get all of the gas. In fact, most are only 28" in length so I'm left with roughly 6 gallons of gas (or more) that is unreachable. For months I've worked around this issue by adding 10" sections of CPAP hose tubing to the end of the pump shaft to extend the reach to the bottom of my gas containers. The system does work but has several flaws. First of all, although the CPAP tubing and rubber connector creates an air-tight seal on the bottom of the shaft, the transfer pumps don't actually use a true "suction" to pull in the liquid. They have a tiny impeller on the end of the shaft that actually pushes gas up the shaft and out the dispenser. In order for the gas to actually start dispensing, the end of the shaft has to be submerged in the gas and begin the transfer process. Once it starts, the siphoning will continue to pull gas out of the can until I release the gas dispensing handle or the gas runs out in the container. As you can imagine, getting just a gallon or 2 of gas to begin pumping was a total pain in the butt. I would tilt the gas can and try to get the pump to be submerged enough to prime and pump. In addition, as the CPAP tubing starts to crack, the whole system doesn't work anymore because it's no longer air-tight and I have to replace the tubing. The whole process was not ideal. As I continued my search for another solution, I was finding that there are only a few transfer pumps that are approved for gas. Because of it's obvious risk of fire, finding an approved gas transfer pump that was reasonably priced was not an easy task. I finally ordered this GasTapper 12v max pump once I realized the suction line was long enough for me to easily reach the bottom of my containers. I am extremely happy with the product. It's 12v so it's powered by the 12v cigarette lighter on my motorcycle. The intake line is roughly 8 feet long and drops to the bottom of my gas container without me having to tilt or move them. The air bulb which is used to power on/off the pump is long and allows me to control the pump while dispensing gas into my bike. The carrying case is well built and seals tightly to keep gas fumes from stinking everything up once closed up. The flow rate is 1.2 gallons per minute, which is roughly half the rate of the other transfer pump I have, but it's not like a minute or two is any big deal when I'm only filling a max 6-gallon gas tank. I can't comment on the longevity of the pump, but I'm optimistically hopeful that it will last me a while. I'm extremely happy so far. ... show more

    • GREAT PRODUCT AND ITS VERY HANDY AND WELL THOUGHT OUT
I will be the first to admit that i had my doubts on how good this product was. I kept thinking wow if its as good as they say it is then i can really put it to use. Of course there are other ways to siphon gas besides putting a couple of hundred dollars into a orange folding plastic box that contains some hoses and a small pump. Upon using it however i found that it is well thought out. Then when your done you still have gas in the hoses but the box is sealed so you wont smell that gas or have it leak wherever you store it. I particularly love the squeeze bulb that turns the motor on and off via a long cord. There arent really very good instructions when you first get it. It doesnt take long to figure it out. The hoses fit inside each other for when you are siphoning a vehicle and you want to get past the plastic ball that is inside the filler neck. It also says to put a bit of wd40 or such on the end of the first tube and to leave the 2nd tube pulled up a bit so the first tube has some wiggle room to move further down the obstruction ( ball). I sometimes wonder if technology is around just to make/require more special gear to do things with or what. Years ago a garden hose cut off worked just fine. I made my own by buying a pump and plug and some plastic tubing but i still found this kit alot handier. I dont usually put out 200 dollars for anything plastic but in this case its the exception. No its not a 200 dollars evan but its like 185 plus the tax. MY first job with it was to pump out 5 gallons of old gas out of a generator. Later on i was able to read the instructions more clearly and also looked at the web page. They guarantee theyre pumps and say if you have any issues to contact them. Also if something wasnt packed in the kit they say they will make it right. As I get older i find myself looking for more shortcuts .. this is a great shortcut. My only issue was its hard to wind those hoses back up and to get them in the box. Perhaps the box can be made a bit bigger. They give you velcro straps and that velcro isnt very resistant or strong. Thats another area that needs to be fixed. No one wants to stand there trying to rewind the hoses and most likely they will just jam it in the box or leave some of the componets out of the box and then not be able to find them later on. I bought this to replace a ‘D’ cell powered ‘hand’ held pump that failed I was using for my RV needs. Very happy with this product! Works very well, very neat and clean way to do it with plenty of lift to raise the fuel from ground level to the fill without a need for stools or other help as I previously needed.     • A little pricey but works well
I bought this mainly to fill my gas jugs from my truck fuel tank instead of taking gas containers to have them filled. Unfortunately, I cannot get any of the hoses all the way into the fuel tank of my truck. I have many gas powered toys/equipment and this works great for moving fuel around. Pros: Strong pump and will get all the fuel out of a can/tank by moving hose around. I like the hard case and all the different size hoses. Pumps fairly fast. Cons: Cannot get any of the hard hoses into car/truck fuel tanks even with the instructions. A little expensive. One time the pump just stopped on its own after only about 10 seconds of use. It eventually started again and I hope it doesn’t happen again. I’m not a big fan of the remote control to stop/start, but it does work. ... show more
