This pump is straightforward simple and very well built - but with the sloppiest tolerances. Perfect for a solid foundation for a good pump, if you are mechanically inclined and would be interested in improving on it before use. These types of things are my favorite, bad enough to be inexpensive - yet good enough in all the right ways, that with a little improvement, it could be made really nice. If you just plug it in, and use it - you might rate it poorly. The wiring is not very thick for DC like maybe 18 gauge, so running full speed on, I imagine that would max out the ampacity of that size wire - but they have to keep costs down, so I understand, and it's perfectly suitable for my use, because I put an electronic motor speed controller ahead of it, so it runs only about 1/3 intended speed, and third energy load, so this Guage wire works for my task, if you wanted to run it full bore, you should probably keep on a strict duty cycle. The biggest issues were the fittings - I can 100% confirm that both inlet and outlet are 3/4 NPT . - But the threads are cut super duper loose, fittings rattle all around, barely catch, and almost fall out, and I tried several, certainly the loosest of threads, but it's for sure 3/4 NPT... No amount of pipe dope or Teflon tape is gonna seal those as is. Good news, the solution is simple, JB weld in reducing bushings to 1/2 NPT and problem solved, now it takes regular yellow Teflon tape and seals well no problem.. The Best part is that it has a steel impeller head, Cast Iron housing and a simple internal overpressure bypass valve, a simple relatively large motor, and just 2 seals and 2 real bearings. Very nice, where it counts. It does have Nylon impeller blades - but every one you find would, probably or even worse plastic head or other internals, but I was going for a more extra durable, yet slower moving motor, so I cut my own Upgraded steel impeller blades to replace the included stock Nylon ones, it is now more robust but you couldn't probably run all steel at the full speed, I am run at a reduced speed, and full metal everywhere it can be, is durable for me. Just a simple largish brushed motor, 2 bearings, and 2 o- ring seals, and jb welded the bushings in. I fabricated a mate to an old CPU cooling heatsink and topped it with a dc computer fan to push away any heat from the now all steel impeller, it is running medium slow, it feels durable and reliable. If you just open the box and use it, you would expect maybe some issues, but if you are handy and like building stuff from close to good enough stuff, at an affordable price point, then this is a great platform and starting point. A very good but imperfect pump gets 5/5 - from me- with some effort you could truly craft it into something special for your project. ... show more

Ok, I have had this pump since 2021. I don't like to give a review until something proves itself to me. I live In Alaska and use it to fill my heating fuel tanks and my tractor. It works great and has a good flow rate. The only thing I did was to add a stiff rod to the intake hose to hold in straight down in a drum, and used thread sealer on the fittings. I read countless reviews here at Amazon about these small transfer pumps as I thought it would be a great tool for my shop and needs. The first thing I did when I received this pump was to grab two 4'' NPT pipes I had already and screwed them into both ends of the pump head, where everyone claims they cannot seal the treads and the pumps will not pump'. I used NO pipe sealants whatsoever and the pipes at both ends screwed in tightly as they would for any other use I have. I plugged in the pump and it sucked my hand in as well as I expected. When the time come to use the pump to transfer fluids, oils I will add tape to the threads as I would any other pipe to make sure I have a decent seal and the pipes don't wiggle themselves out with use. On a side note thsi pump cannot be used with gasoline as the impeller is made of steel which would create a spark. One buyer claimed they made up new impellers to replace the steel one that came with the pump and it worked for gasoline use. Thats crazy dangerous and foolish! Just my two cents on the subject, idea.. The electric motor was a but noisy but nothing to really concern me much. I will only run it for short periods like recommended. If the motor ever does fail or lock up I figure a person could easily install a short shaft into the pump with the motor removed and use a cordless drill to keep using the pump itself! Its this reason that caused me to purchase this pump as I figured it had many different possibilities and uses even if the electric motor fails someday. IMPO. I'll also be upgrading the motor wiring as it is a bit thin which isn't good for its continued survival/use! All cheap EASY upgrades! Buy one and use common sense and you be fine I think... Good luck. I bought this pump with my own money as I really wanted to see if reviews were fair, Maybe some other brands are built differently or poorly but this brand is of decent quality as I see it. I've been turning wrenches most of my life folks, I'm now pushing 67 years of age. ... show more
