    • Great Plant Stand! Worth the investment!

When I read some other comments about this product, I was hesitant to order because of the difficulties they were having. Then I realized that they were old comments and took a chance that they made some changes to the design if that was really the issue. I'm so glad I took a chance. This is the third plant stand I've owned so I am familiar with using them. I did not experience any of the negative things mentioned in other comments. This product arrived earlier than expected, which was great! It came in two boxes and everything was intact, including the bulbs. I did not find the instructions difficult to follow, BUT I took the moments to read them over FIRST before I started to put it together. There are a lot of details you need to know of first so you don't have to take it apart and reassemble. Assembling the plant stand was easy, everything lined up just right, and all I needed were the tools they suggested in the instructions. It took two of us about 30 minutes to put it together. I could have done it on my own but was easier with another person. I would suggest that when you are putting the chains in through the holes on the sides that you tip the unit so the chain drops through each hole. It made that part super easy. No need to thread anything to the chain and the unit is light enough to do it since the light fixtures are not installed at this point. Once put together, it rolls easily across the floor. This was a must-have for me. The chains to lift and lower the lights work well. One of my old (20+ yrs) tables was difficult to raise and lower the lights so I am really happy with this setup. There is some heat that comes off the bulbs so that's something to be aware of if you are going to be propagating something and you would like the top part of the plant to be cooler than the bottom. I just raised the lights away from the plants and turned on a small fan and that solved the issue. The cords to the lights are long which is great. I would highly suggest getting the "Titan Controls 8-Outlet Power Strip w/ Timer, 120V - Apollo 14" from Amazon. It's fairly priced at $30.10 by Till & Root. I thought I would have to have two power strips and a timer but this is all in one so it saved me money in the long run. It has two rows of plugs, one that supplies constant power (like for a heat mat) and one that is run by a timer for the lights. I love that the plant stand has trays with sides that are taller than an inch. It will definitely keep the excess water in. The plant trays I purchased fit 5 trays on each level/200 plants per level, 600 plants if I filled it up, which if you think it's too much money to spend on this stand, consider it paid for in one planting. Where I live you're not going to find plants for less than $1 in the spring. Plus you're limited in a selection based on what others want to grow. I'd rather pick out my favorites and grow what I like. If you won't use that many plants consider selling them to your neighbors. There are lots of uses for this plant stand year-round. It's December and I've had the stand now for a few months and I'm growing herbs, cuttings of houseplants and cuttings from a bonsai collection. Overall, I really like this plant stand and believe it will serve as a great place to propagate plant cuttings and start plants from seed just as I did for years on my other tables. ... show more

I live in Wisconsin and was so worried about my succulents over the harsh cold winter and not getting enough light. This shelf is amazing and its so attractive. Assembly is a breeze if you have 2 people. everything about it is so functional! I love that you can adjust the lights easily for watering.( I tie a little string of yarn where I like to keep the lights so you don't have to keep counting the little spheres) and the light it provides is awesome and I get such beautiful colorful results. 3 months with this light, keeping it forever. ... show more

This is a very great purchase. It’s easy to put together and does a magnificent job. You’ll never have to worry about leggy plants again with its strong grow lights. I personally have plant sales and this has plenty of room to hold your plants overnight when it’s too cold. The lights themselves seem a bit flimsy, but the overall structure is really nice and has a light of space considering how small the footprint is. T5 lights are definitely not as nice as the LEDs I'm using on our main counters but for basic starts, this works just fine. Fabulous, wonderful, convenient! Provides a bit of summer sanity to winter blues. This system has already provided us with 300 strong seedlings. We've never had a success rate like this. Easy to use and maintain. It's so much easier to have all the seedlings in one place. Watering is a snap. Adjusting the light is simple and whatever issue there was previously with the lamps slipping is now resolved. The one area of opportunity we found is that they could take a page out of IKEA's book of how to assemble a unit. Pictures really do help! If you don’t want to spend the time and effort building your own grow light shelving, which would be much cheaper than this product, this is about the only option out there. This is my second one. I’ve collected too many tropical plants and ran out of grow light space. It’s bit pricey but does the trick. It is well built and my plants thrive in the light. The biggest problem is in the construction. I had forgotten the frustration I experienced building the first one. Be prepared to undo parts of what you just put together. The instructions are woefully inadequate. It’s unclear as to the proper alignment of the many bolt holes, which ones should be facing where. It’s trial and error unless you get lucky. I had to drill my own bolt holes with my first one as I would have had to take the whole thing apart to make it work. With this latest purchase, I ended up with two extra bolt covers that were supposed to go where they absolutely couldn’t go. Anyway, I recommend this product as it is very good once it’s constructed. I just wish the manufacturers would go back to the technical writing drawing board and create clear instructions. ... show more
