Frequently asked questions

To use the soil pH test kit, start by collecting a small sample of soil from the area you wish to test. Remove any debris, such as sticks or stones, then wet the soil with distilled water to create a slurry. Dip a pH test strip into the slurry, ensuring it's fully immersed, then wait for the amount of time specified in the kit's instructions. After waiting, compare the color of the strip to the color chart provided with the kit to determine the pH level of your soil.

The ideal soil pH range for most garden plants is between 6.0 and 7.0, which is slightly acidic to neutral. However, some plants thrive in more acidic or alkaline soils. It's important to know the specific needs of the plants you're growing, as the correct pH is crucial for nutrient availability.

Yes, the soil pH test kit is suitable for testing the acidity and alkalinity of soil for both indoor and outdoor plants, including garden lawn grass, flowers, vegetables, compost, and more. It's a versatile tool for gardeners and plant enthusiasts to ensure the health and growth of their plants by maintaining the optimal soil pH.

Testing soil pH before planting is important because it helps you understand the soil's acidity or alkalinity, which significantly affects plants' ability to absorb nutrients. If the soil pH is too high or too low for your plants, it can lead to nutrient deficiencies, poor growth, and a lack of vitality. By knowing the soil pH, you can take corrective actions, such as applying lime to raise pH or sulfur to lower pH, to create the ideal growing environment for your plants.

  • Easy to use
Size: 1.9L x 1.9W x 4.3H
Easy directions and seem to work good of the 4 areas I checked.

  • Pretty easy to use; accceptable accuracy; cost effective
Size: 1.9L x 1.9W x 4.3H
While using this kit involves a lot more work than the 'push it in and read' type of pH testers, the results are way more accurate than what I got with inexpensive probe-style readers. The cost per test is very reasonable and the instructions provided with the kit are clear and detailed. My biggest hurdle using it was distinguishing the colors on the test strips to compare them with the color key. A larger key and larger strips would have made that easier. While nothing beats the accuracy of a true lab test, for my home garden this kit has been far more helpful and useful than the inexpensive probe readers. Not perfect, but a very workable option to determine soil pH. ... show more

  • As accurate as I need!
Size: 1.9L x 1.9W x 4.3H
I’ve brought soil into the garden from a few places, and usually get it tested by a lab. I used this to see if pH had changed at all over the last 1-2 years in 3 different places since I sent for a lab test, and results were generally the same as the lab tests were a couple years ago, leading me to believe these strips are pretty accurate! Easy to read within +/- 0.5. ... show more

  • Inaccurate Findings?
Size: 1.9L x 1.9W x 4.3H
I followed the instructions to a T, and the results were very strange. The tests reported that all of my garden beds were depleted or highly deficient of nutrients, which was a weird given the face that I've only had the garden beds for one year. A bit odd, but not entirely out of the question. However, the test that made me raise an eyebrow the most was the nitrogen sample. According to it, all of my beds were completely depleted...I even tested straight fertilizer that was high in nitrogen...and it said that it was depleted. It wasn't until I let the test sit for another 10 minutes (longer than what the instructions recommended), did I see that it started to change slightly in favor of the nitrogen. All this to say, it may not be completely inaccurate, but it feels fussy to use, and I'm not entirely sure if I can trust all the results. ... show more

  • Accurate test kit but not to readable.
Size: 1.9L x 1.9W x 4.3H
The Test Kit is very easy to use with excellent instructions. However like a lot of the reviews, the colors on the test strip are not as clear cut as I would like. For example a pH of 6.5 or 7.5, is pretty much a no brainer, but is it a 6.5 or 7.0 it is very hard to tell.
